Rumours abounded a few years ago, I guess shortly after the release of the movie, but I have heard nothing since. Are there any plans for a sequel to JE?

I just watched this last night, and I thought it was OK. Nowhere near as bad as some people made out at the time. I understood they were intending to make a series, but the dreadful reception the film got meant that no more were made ... much to Atkinson's disappointment, apparently.
Anyway, I liked it. Sort of.
I bloomin' well hope not! The only good thing about it was the delicious Natalie Imbrugulugulia
Why, it was written by the co-writers of Casino Royale? I think it was a missed opportunity.Originally Posted by Steve Crook

a visa ad streched to an hour and a half . dreadful .
they'd better not make a sequel
what i didnt like about it was it seemed to be very self indulgent on atkinsons behalf " look at me im eventually james bond in an ironic sort of way "
I never understood why people don't like this film. I've always enjoyed it![]()
As an alternative to prison sentences of less than six months, Offenders will be made to watch Johnnie English and Mr Bean the movie. I think I would take the Prison sentence!!!!
I'd rather wash a tramps dick than sit through either of those movies.Originally Posted by paul kersey
Seriously, there is lots of talent around and we waste what little money around to fund this rubbish.
Typical of the brit film industry i'm afraid.
Moral is that the one joke in a good series of 30 second TV commercials does not run the length of a hyped feature film.
Embarrassingly true.
As if by magic Working Title renews Johnny English's licence | Film | guardian.co.uk
Bad news for anyone who thought that Johnny English's licence had been revoked. The Guardian can exclusively reveal that the bumbling British spy is set for another mission, with Rowan Atkinson in talks to reprise his role from the 2003 comedy.
The original Johnny English offered an energetic spoof of the James Bond franchise, casting Atkinson as an accident-prone British agent. The hero was partly based on a character Atkinson played in a series of TV commercials for Barclays bank in the 1990s, though it also contained aspects of Mr Bean, Atkinson's most famous comic creation.
Johnny English opened to largely scathing reviews in the summer of 2003, with the Observer's Philip French dubbing it "an unnecessary, pointless Bond parody" and the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw accusing it of cynically targeting "a Mr Bean-style audience in lucrative foreign territories".
If so, it seemed to work. Johnny English went on to earn upwards of $160m (£96.5m) in cinemas across the world.
I hope its better than the first one.

The whole spy culture is a bit passe, isn't it? Austin Powers worked only because it was super-high camp, but after that, it all gets a bit same-y.
Agreed, Kitty. I like the look of the trailer, but the only thing that will save the film is if the story's any good. I know that sounds irrelevant, but with the various spoof methods used up or done better (Austin Powers-style camp, Leslie Nielsen absurdity, and straight spoof - which was covered by the mid-60s, with franchises like Matt Helm, Flint, UNCLE, Get Smart, never mind the more modern attempts), this film needs to be a good film in order to get any traction. The Gags are not Enough, as the Pierce Brosnan Bond had it.
The Guardian are ripping the **** out of the trailer! Funny but I'm not sure it's fair. I'm sure my kids will love it!
Johnny Trailer
Very weak ****take by the Guardian. Obviously they decided to slaughter the trailer, then found that there wasn't much to say except to give a running commentary to the gags. If you can't be funnier than a Johnny English trailer, don't try to take the **** out of it. In fact, if you can't be funnier than a Johnny English trailer, you don't really have the writing talent to be a journalist.
I would never let my kids read the Guardian.Funny but I'm not sure it's fair. I'm sure my kids will love it!
