Does anyone remember this film about a 7 year old called Gus played by Robert Duncan? I've only seen it once way back in 74. Is this the same actor that was in the sitcom Drop the dead donkey?
Anyone familiar with a 1965 British film called The Uncle, directed by Desmond Davis? It's about a young boy who has a nephew of the same age, and sometimes finds it difficult to come to terms with this, as it makes him feel responsible for the other boy.
I last saw the film on TV back in the mid-'70s, and have been waiting ever since for it to turn up again. I don't remember much in the way of individual scenes, but I do recall its atmospheric evocation of childhood, something like Whistle Down The Wind.

According to the IMDb, the Robert Duncan playing Gus in Drop the Dead Donkey was a different Robert Duncan to the Robert Duncan playing Gus in The Uncle.Originally Posted by trimphoner

The Robert Duncan who was in The Uncle and Eye of the Devil ( with David Niven ) was a child actor whose real name was Duncan Ponikwer with whom I was at University in the 70's. He had given up acting by then and to the best of my knowledge hasn't acted since. If memory serves he lived in the Carshalton area. Hope that helps :-)
This film was shot in and around Plymouth in the Summer of 1965....I was on Holiday down there with Mum and Dad at that time and we actually appear in one of the Crowd Scenes....I was only 6 at the time so i dont remember a lot about it !!
I have a copy of the film but its very poor quality....as far as im aware its never had an official release...If any readers have a good copy can they get in contact
If memory serves Rupert Davies played the Father...He also provided the voice of Joes Dad in Joe 90!!![]()
Having been told about the site and the question re The Uncle, I am/was Robert Duncan who played Gus. It was filmed in the Plymouth area in the summer of 1964. It was my first film of 5, the last one was the ripe old age of 12! Other actors included Brenda Bruce and Maurice Denham.
And yes I was at university in the 1970's prior to a career in banking!!
Welcome Duncan! Our first Featured Player (though there are folks here with long and distinguished movie careers!)
I have been waiting for almost 50 years for a chance to see this film. I have never seen it but I was in it!! I was 7 or 8 years old. As I recall, many of the children in our class at school (St. Andrews School in Plymouth) were told that we were going to be in a movie and we were all very excited - we were taken to some location or other which I think was a park somewhere, and we were told to play in the background while they were filming. I always wanted to see the finished film but never had a chance - if it was ever on TV well I missed it!
