Are all of the SCREENONLINE clips and complete programmes/films available to view in good quality at the Mediatheque ? (as they have never been at my large UK public library.....) due to so called 'technical problems'.....

Having been to the Mediateque and been subject to technical problems on the item i wanted to view i have not bothered to make another journey there.

The problem is that they dont own the rights.To be quite frank the only way to see Quota Quickies nowdays,by and large,is to keep an eye out on Amazon or ebay.Having said that does anyone know on what bizarre formula IMB make recommendations for other films.Any film from the 20s and 30s they flag up seems to be unavailable but the latest block buster which they happen to link up to a Conrad Veidt drama is somehow available on Amazon.

It's a complicated formula with many factors taken into account but one of the biggest factors is to do with keywords. The more keywords there are in common to two films, the higher the chances of one film being a recommendation from the other.

The trouble is that they only count the keywords in common. They don't count how many keywords one film has that don't match any keywords for the other film. So if a film has a few hundred (or thousand) keywords then it is more liable to be used as a recommendation.

They don't take a film's availability into account at all when they're deciding on the recommendation

It helps to quote what you're referring to, especially when it's that far back and so many other things have been discovered since then.

The version of Powell's Man Behind the Mask is actually just the American release, as Behind the Mask which is cut slightly.

There are others where clips or even quite large extracts have been found where none were known to exist prior to the book, and the documentary.

I read the novel "The Constant Nymph" by Margaret Kennedy- the book has compelling story about relationship & slow burning romance.

You'll be pleased to hear there's no molestation in the film...it's all about a crush, really, in the film, but the SPOILER ALERT kid dies of a heart condition after they elope and before anything physical takes place. IIRC It was Kevin Brownlow that came up with a copy. It's a cracking film, the peak of Adrian Brunel's directorial career.
