name='smudge']... FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE has some much darker elements (Haunted Mirror, Pleasence segment) and Peter Cushing's marvellous linking sequence as the shopkeeper.
Ah yes, of course, Peter Cushing was wonderful in that. I didn't quite know at first whether he'd be able to pull off the northern accent, but he was great. He had some classic lines: "Naughty! Shouldn'ta done that!"; and "Enjoy snuffing it".

Rarely gave a bad performance, our Peter. One of the most consistent and versatile of British actors, in my opinion.

Had to ponder on this for a while, difficult choice as I like them all! In the end I plumped for From Beyond the Grave. For sheer creepiness I would have to select "Act of Kindness" as the best story, with Ian Bannen and a terrific turn from Donald and Angela Pleasence.

My DIY Amicus would consist of:

"Act of Kindness" - Ian Bannen, Donald and Angela Pleasence.

"The Cloak" - Jon Pertwee and Ingrid Pitt.

"The Door" - Ian Ogilvy, Jack Watson and Lesley Anne-Down

"Blind Alley's" - Nigel Patrick, Patrick Magee.

    "Poetic Justice" - Peter Cushing.

I quite like Tales that witness madness( very camp ) not sure if it's amicus or not but the same format, like the joan collins section, and i believe it was jack hawkins last film ? sadly with his voice dubbed (patrick allen? ) for obvious reasons.

    cheers Ollie.

I believe it was an Amicus film and therefore should be up there for a vote

As I understand it the film never got a proper release and was dumped on to TV

I thought this was an Amicus too, but after checking my copy its a World Film Services production. I agree it has its moments though it gets poor reviews. The "Penny Farthing" story with Uncle Albert is pretty good.

Probably has to be The House That Dripped Blood (Ingrid Pitt in prime busty vampire mode is hard to beat) but a few there in that poll not seen.

Dr Terror is a great concept (the train carriage) but the one with Fluff Freeman and the killer plant is just ridiculous.

A pity there is no complete Amicus boxset - getting uncut/good DVD prints of Crypt and Vault is difficult.

The best Amicus boxset I've found is the Australian 6 DVD set with: DR TERROR, HOUSE THAT DRIPPED, ASYLUM, AND NOW THE SCREAMING STARTS, BEAST MUST DIE and CITY OF THE DEAD.

City Of The Dead was a real surprise. Christopher Lee is great in it and the first 45 mins are genuinely creepy.

Good call, but how would you frame them? Perhaps you could come up with an original linking piece to tie them all together. I always fancied a class reunion, only organised by a class mate not everyone can remember. All their tales unfold as part of a year review for which they now have to pay the price for their wicked deeds. But who does the host turn out to be?

Yep, have to agree. My favourite Hammer/Amicus actor. As for what I would pick, hell I've got them all! Still if I had to chose, it would be From Beyond the Grave.

Could be, he certainly had bushmungus eyebrows enough to put the willies up the lot of them.

Wait a minute, I just said put the willies up in a section linked to Joan Collins in early seventies full boobage and cleaveheavingness!! Oh wow, I need to go and lie down for a while....
