Seems a strange idea to me. I can see something like 'The Richard Attenborough Lifetime Achievement Award', but I'm not at all sure about the a panel of critics making all their awards in his name.

An annual British awards ceremony is to be renamed in honour of Oscar-winning film director Lord Attenborough.
The Richard Attenborough Film Awards will take place in January, replacing the UK Regional Critics' Film Awards.
Organisers hailed the 84-year-old as "a vital part of the backbone of the British film industry".
Lord Attenborough, who has directed 12 films, received two Academy Awards in 1983, for best picture and best director on Gandhi.
"I have always believed that the cinema's astonishing power to surprise, move, amuse and, above all, entertain can only be fulfilled when films are experienced by audiences," Lord Attenborough said.
"As three-quarters of UK cinema admissions take place outside the London area, I am only too pleased to support the regional critics in their appreciation and celebration of the finest film-making."
The honour came as Lord Attenborough attended the premiere of his latest film, Closing the Ring, in Belfast.
It stars Shirley MacLaine and Mischa Barton, and is based on a true story of an American woman whose great love was killed during World War II near Belfast when the bomber he was flying in crashed.

Sounds more like the DAFTA Awards to me.......
I wouldn't have thought Mr. Attenborough would countenance such an appalling idea would he?
Not that I know much about anyhting......![]()
Does seem like a strange idea, especially as he's still with us. I know that the theatre awards are called the Laurence Olivier Awards ('Larrys') but that was done several years after he had died and was a distinct improvement over their previous name - Society of West End Theatre Awards ('SWETS'). I quite like them being called the BAFTAs .... and as a Chelsea fan, don't like the idea of them being replaced by the RAFAs!
Bats.
ps - Mrs Bat once had me in stitches when, while watching an episode of Waking The Dead, an actress character was murdered by being bashed over the head with a film award, Mrs Bat said dryly .... "He bifta with a Bafta"
'The Dick' goes to . . . .
Does anyone remember the marvellous spoof awards with i think Eric Idle as Dickie becoming more and more awash with tears as the awards go on and David Niven sending his fridge to collect his award.
Aha! The cult of Celebrity is at work......... Presumably the Oscars will shortly become the Stephen Spielberg Awards......name='batman'] I know that the theatre awards are called the Laurence Olivier Awards![]()
So is the actual award going to be named a"LUVY" or a "DARLING" then!
I read the article and my understanding is that it is The Regional Critics Film Awards held in january that are being renamed, Im assuming that is a different thing from the BAFTAs and that the BAFTAs will remain as they are?![]()
Ah! Those awards!.........name='christoph404']I read the article and my understanding is that it is The Regional Critics Film Awards held in january that are being renamed.....
These headline writers.........
That'll teach us all to read the smaller print.......![]()

Never heard of those .....

Sounds a bit like the UK Regional Critics' Film Awards, a trade body in the PR market, are simply hoping for greater publicity by attaching themselves to a celebrity.

Whatever made you think that?

Had anybody (outside the business) ever heard of these awards before they made this bid for publicity?name='DB7']Sounds a bit like the UK Regional Critics' Film Awards, a trade body in the PR market, are simply hoping for greater publicity by attaching themselves to a celebrity.

I think there is already a special David Lean award that is part of the BAFTAs ceremoney and I believe Stephen Spielberg was the first recipiant of the award presented by Richard Attenborough, that would have been around the time of Schindlers List.![]()
Fair comment.
