Thanks DBF, time to skip over to the I-Offer thread !
No, The Legend Of Young Dick Turpin has never been released on DVD. There was a PAL VHS video release of it in the UK in the early 1980's, but, as very few people at that time had a VCR, it sold poorly and was deleted. Sometimes, that VHS video turns up on eBay.

darrenburnfan, on IMDB "The Legend Of Young Dick Turpin" is listed as part of a 2 part TV broadcast. Was it released on the big screen in the UK ?
Yes, it was made available in two versions. One running 145 minutes that was shown in two parts on the Disney television programmes in the USA in early 1966 and an edited down 94 minutes version that was released as a feature film to cinemas in the UK and Europe in 1965. This was the same procedure that was used for The Prince and The Pauper (1962) and Dr Syn, Alias The Scarecrow (1963).
From the American Gold Key Movie Classic comic of The Legend Of Young Dick Turpin released in early 1966 to coincide with the film's presentation on the Walt Disney television programme in the States. Here are the front cover; inside front cover, page 3 and the back cover of the comic. Left click with mouse on white bar on the top of each image to enlarge it.
The catchy and melodic theme song was sung on the soundtrack by Val Doonican, although for some reason, his version wasn't released on a single at the time. But there were two other renditions released on singles in 1965, one on Pye by John E. Clay and this one below on His Master's Voice by Brian Gregory (the best of the two single releases). Last seen in Doctors in 2008.

Thanks, Marky. I suppose he's unrecognisable now from how he looked in The Legend Of Young Dick Turpin.

DBF, so a DVDR of the TV show versions would be much longer in the case of Turpin and Dr,. Syn ?
By the way DBF, if Val Doonican cut the soundtrack, there's always a chance Jimmy Page might be playing on it. I'm no expert, nor do I know who to ask, but I do know the young Mr Page did play on some of Val's records.
Yes, the versions shown on Walt Disney's Wonderful World Of Color TV programme were at least 40 minutes longer than the versions released to cinemas, allowing for more character development...although the feature film versions were so well edited that you can't tell there's anything missing. In the case of Dr Syn, Alias The Scarecrow, Disney released a not very well publicised special DVD edition in November, 2008, of both the cinema and television versions which was limited to a run of 35,000 copies that rapidly sold out. Any other company but Disney would have realised that they were on to a good and profitable thing and kept it on catalogue...but they didn't and the only way that fans can get a copy of it now is via amazon market place sellers who are charging a fortune for it. Probably the same on eBay, too. Walt must be turning in his grave, as he would have made sure that if the public wanted it, they would have got it.
I have no idea if Jimmy Page played on the Val Doonican soundtrack version, but he could have done. The record, if it had been released, would have been on the Decca label.
Cheers DBF, the Disney "Dr Syn" release is on ebay regular for around $100, so I will go with an IOfffer copy for $7. Haven't found the Disney Turpin anywhere yet.
I have The Legend Of Young Dick Turpin (feature film version) recorded on video from the last time it was shown on television on Thursday, December 30th, 1993...nearly seventeen years ago and it has not been repeated since. Unfortunately, I haven't got the technology to transfer the video recording onto a DVD-R.
Here are some screencaps of Richard O'Sullivan as Dick Turpin in the episode The Champion (1979) from the Adventure series Dick Turpin.

My favourite version of Dick Turpin is the TV series starring Richard O'Sullivan (one of my favourite Actors) as Dick Turpin, the series ran from 1979 - 1982 and there were 31 episodes, many well known Actors and Actresses appeared in the series.

The theme music was composed by Denis King.
name='Windthrop']it is a pity that there hasn't been another incarnation of Dr Syn. I guess there hasn't because Disney have a stranglehold on the rights.
The novel was published in 1915. Even with all the copyright changes in recent years, it's probably in public domain by now.

Have a film print of the 1933 Dick Turpin which has proven popular here over the years so would give this the thumbs up.
A centre page pull-out of Richard O'Sullivan as Dick Turpin from the February 24th - March 2nd 1979 issue of TV Times.
