Al Read did do some tv but it never really worked, and he said in his autobiography he was never entirely happy with the medium.

I believe he appeared in a couple of supporting roles in the 60s.

Here is a nomination for Max Wall.I was lucky enough to see him in some of his later West End shows and he was a riot. His imb entry does show some film appearances but since the parts are waiter ,boots etc it would appear that he was never in a film which featured his unique talents

I don't remember Les Dawson in 'The Boys in Blue'. I've seen the film a couple of times and didn't spot him. Maybe he was cut out or something.

I thought of Billy Bennett when I first saw this thread but it seems he appeared in 6 films in the 30s. They included Almost a Gentleman (1938) which was his catchphrase and the title of the second part of John Osborne's autobiography. John was an admirer of Bennett but the highbrow critics didn't get the reference and thought he was quoting Cardinal Newman.

Osborne was an admirer of Music Hall acts and especially Billy Bennett and Max Miller ("there'll never be another!"), something he shared with Sir John Betjeman. There's a lovely bit on "Time with Betjeman" with them listening to an old record of Max on stage.

IMDB list Les as being in it but I don't remember seeing him. Mind you, I'd probably nodded off by then!
