name='dremble wedge']The Devil Rides Out on ITV 4.
Simply marvellous stuff, although the print had the US title of The Devil's Bride. I wonder if there were any alterations in this?
Couldn't agree more, excellent film![]()

Sabotage Agent /The Adventures of Tartu 1943
Robert Donat once again, this time as a British agent working to sabotage a Nazi poison gas factory.
A good spy yarn,Donat charming as ever, even when impersonating a Romanian SS officer!
To the NFT for a Launder and Gilliat-tastic double bill of Night Train to Munich and State Secret. If there's a better way to spend an evening that doesn't involve the retiring Doctor Who and a pint of whipped cream, I don't know what it is![]()

Was that last night or tonight? I've just come back from doing the same thing - double helping of Sidney. What a last line in State Secret: "I think I'm going to be sick". Plus Glynis Johns to creepy Herbert Lom while she's packing for him: "This is going to take me longer if I stop to shudder".
You can keep Superman or Batman - Rex Harrison's Dickie in NTTM is my superhero.
All this and Charters and Caldicott too...![]()
Tonight - I was sitting just behind someone who was laughing like a loon at everything Jack Hawkins said for the first 10 minutes of State Secret though he/she fortunately calmed down before there was any violence. I've seen Night Train to Munich approximately 354 times on Film 4 in the last 3 years but it was my first viewing of State Secret for more than 20 years. It was very good though I could have done with a bit less tedious climbing at the end...

LOL I was sitting right behind you! The loon who laughed was a guy sitting outside beforehand who was shouting like a real nutter. I couldn't believe it when he started that maniacal giggling.

Oh, I saw him on the sofa and I saw some staff trying to decide whether to talk to him. But muttering in a corridor is fairly harmless I suppose, just very annoying in the actual cinema!
Interesting that Night Train (which is on telly all the time) was much better attended than State Secret.
If it's who I think it is, he is Known To The Staff.....sounds like a good season. It's not often I wish I still lived in London, but these last two months seem like they have been good ones at the NFT...

Jump on the train, it's not far from Bristols.![]()
Eden Lake
A contemporary horror that could almost be described as a hoodie Deliverance or modern Straw Dogs. Depressing as hell and hard to stomach, but it's not exploitive as the characters are well developed and the gang dynamic is depicted.
I'd recommend this to anyone just before you go to bed. It was so peaceful and pleasant I fell in to a deep sleep afterwards.
iPlayerlist - Joanna Lumley in the Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon
"Papillion"
Long time since I last watched it but still found it excellent. Must get around to reading the book and its successor "Banco"![]()
The Cat and the Canary
Spooky goings on in an old dark house with a storm outside and an interesting cast within.
The likes of Honor Blackman, Edward Fox, Wendy Hiller, Peter McEnery, Olivia Hussey and Wilfrid Hyde White provide some camp fun but it's definitely one to mark down as a guilty pleasure rather than actually being any good.
The excellent The Firechasers. Laurie Johnson's music, combined with Sidney Hayers direction and a lead performance from Lewis Collins lookalike Chad Everett, give this one the feel of a strange Avengers/Professionals hybrid. Lewis, I mean Chad, is on the hunt for a 'firebug' in late 60s London. Garish colour photography helps keep the repetitive fire scenes interesting and Everett makes for a likeable lead. Recommended.
The wonderful "Little Dorrit" followed by "Heat"![]()
Managed to watch quite a bit last night.
Railway Walks: Last episode
Wycliffe:The Trojan Horse
Midsommer Murders: Death In Chorus
The Man in the Back Seat
A supposedly simple robbery becomes an eventful night for petty crooks Derren Nesbitt and Keith Faulkner as their attempts to abandon their dying victim are continually frustrated. A cracking second-feature.
