Has anyone ever seen the films The Collector? I think Terence Stamp was in it.

Just asking as I have read the book by John Fowles, and really enjoyed it.

I'd agree with that .... I enjoyed The Collector. Eggar and Stamp worked well together and an atmosphere of unease was maintained throughout.

The Collector (1965) based on the superb novel by John Fowles is one of my all-time favourite films.

An absolutely captivating, magnificently mesmeric psycho-thriller with outstanding performances

from Oscar nominated Samantha Eggar as the fabulous female specimen, and Terence Stamp as the obsessively infatuated, unhinged collector. William Wyler's Hitchcock-inspired direction delivers a terrific suspense thriller that is almost a love story, which culminates in a frenzied, shocking and hauntingly passionate climax that is both moving and terrifying – viewers are universally captivated by intense brilliance of this cinematic masterpiece.

A brilliant, spellbinding, chilling Hitchcockian thriller that haunts the mind long after viewing.

Gerald Franklin aka Freddie Clegg is a fanatical butterfly collector and bored Bank Clerk.

When he wins £71,000/$132,000 on the English Football/Soccer Pools, he purchases large remote

Tudor country house, near Reading, England, and, with chess-like precision researches, develops

and initiates a meticulously chilling (perfect?) plan to expand his collection …

This time it’s serious … this time he wants a human female specimen … he wants one particular female …

he passionately wants the gorgeous young lady he’s been studying for months …

he wants a beautiful young art student … he wants the enchanting Miranda Grey ...

Miranda: “the whole of England must be searching for me …”

Franklin: “they’re looking for you alright … but … no one is looking for me …”

Miranda: “I’m never getting out of here alive, am I ?”

1965 Cannes Film Festival - Golden Palm Award / 1966 Golden Globe Award

Winner: Samantha Eggar - Best Motion Picture Actress

1966: Nominated for 3 Academy Awards – Samantha Eggar – Best Actress

William Wyler – Best Director Stanley Mann/John Kohn – Best Screenplay

I have this film on DVD region 1 so it is available. Fowles was understandably pissed off that the highly successful film version of his novel "The Collector" was promoted as "William Wyler's The Collector" and that the screenwriters were Oscar nominated for, as far as Fowles was concerned, adding scene numbers to extracts from his novel.
