Mmmm...................Most depressing ?

Well, I watched `It Always Rains On Sunday` last night, and I wasn`t exactly splitting my sides with laughter at the end, put it that way !

Another one to get you in the party mood is `The Woodlanders`.

It's not a bundle of laughs but it's not really actually depressing is it?
Googie Withers and soon-to-be hubbie John McCallum are both very good in it

I'd have to add London to Brighton to the list. Some pretty grim stuff. It ends and you sit there thinking "I need some air"

I like to draw cartoons

But I guess that's a different kind of depressing.
'The War Zone' is a truly bleak film, but guess the subject matter will make it so

Aww.......I love 'On the Buses'!...........I think I've mentioned this on another thread, but I recall seeing the Movie 3 times in one day when it had it's theatrical release!..........I still love it today, especially the 'give me back my washing' scene!

Four in the Morning (1965), featuring an early appearance by Judi Dench, is very depressing, though certainly well-acted and directed. Husband and wife arguing, baby constantly crying, body in the Thames - that kind of thing. You know you're watching quality but it's tough.

I would have to say The Devils. The period was deliberately realised in such an anachronistic way that the film itself has not aged at all, and therefore the key message is just as relevant to today's situation as it has ever been (and, sadly, probably ever will be).

Yes, the message of THE DEVILS is a sobering one, and there are many upsetting scenes, but my overall feeling everytime it ends is "WOW! That was AMAZING!" So I'm never depressed.

Yes, I know what you mean, exactly!

Fortunately, it was always on early enough that I could immerse myself in less depressing shows later...

The only movies I find truly depressing are those that are just unremittingly bad. So I nominate The Boys In Blue which, in terms it's look and feel, reminded me of the 'Confessions' series; at the same time making their scripts look witty and Robin Asquith a giant of comic acting.:vomit

The films I find most depressing are ones that too closely resemble the miserable and dpresssing times I have actually experienced... so most of those so called kitchen sink dramas from the 50s and 60s fit the bill - all those Angry Young Men - I have not been able to sit through Poor Cow because they are my parents. Kes is a popular 'depressing' choice because many of us had that type experience at school I try to steer away from obvious depressing subject matter, so I have not seen things like Nil By Mouth or Naked. I also found the so called comedy East is East very upsetting... like being a kid again.
