It's easy to dislike Four Weddings as it was the catalyst for so many cliched rom-coms but snobbery aside, it is a good film and well written. And whilst defending the derided, I'll say Hugh Grant improves significantly when allowed to be roguish as in Bridget Jones and About a Boy.

I think the ending of Land and Freedom is quite inspiring and uplifting, when Kim puts the handful of Spanish earth in her grandfather's grave, and stands with his comrades. And there's some room for optimism at the end of Bread and Roses. |
