That has got to be the most accurate football scene in any film. Man Utd getting dodgy penalty in last minute

The Seventh Victim certainly isn't the cheeriest of films

I haven't even bothered to watch RATCATCHER...

Couldn't agree more, although the football match has to be up there with my favourite scenes of all time.

Yeps... I feel exactly the same about Hugh Grant... what a waste of space he is. And to think he was once referred to as 'the new Cary Grant' .

It's easy to dislike Four Weddings as it was the catalyst for so many cliched rom-coms but snobbery aside, it is a good film and well written. And whilst defending the derided, I'll say Hugh Grant improves significantly when allowed to be roguish as in Bridget Jones and About a Boy.

I thought 4 weddings was funny when it first came out and I enjoyed seeing it at the cinema. But it wasn't Hugh Grant that spoilt it for me, it was Andie Macdowell who IMHO wasn't very good.

I agree: anything by Richard Curtis that isn't Blackadder.

Great thread. Personally i like bleak films more often than not but rarely find them depressing so much as say with Threads, i find it frightening but i admire it Damage is my favourite film but it is relentlessly bleak.

I think the ending of Land and Freedom is quite inspiring and uplifting, when Kim puts the handful of Spanish earth in her grandfather's grave, and stands with his comrades. And there's some room for optimism at the end of Bread and Roses.

'Ferry Across the Mersey' once referred to as 'a small peep into hell'

I have seen a movie, I think, where Hugh Grant was an utter scoundrel... and thought his performance rather good... Its the only movie I've been able to stand him in... but I cannot for the life of me remember the title

Waterloo Bridge, because it's so sad and Orphans because it is just so downbeat.
