Marky,,
Mrs Aitch said it wasn't Mike B. but thought it was a comedien ??

In the early 60s I auditioned for M.B. as guitarist for him in south London.
A chap called Albert Lee got the job so I never became an Outlaw..

I've got Mike Berry's single somewhere - what on earth was it called? It isn't the one mentioned on Imdb - I think it was released in the 70s.

The Christmas countdown has begun - don't leave it all until the last minute!

Aitch,
I thought it was a comedian too. His hair was a bit too long to be a policeman,I thought.

The Sunshine Of Your Smile - it peaked at number 9 in 1980.

He had three hits with the Outlaws which were Joe Meek productions, but in 1980
he had a big hit with "The Sunshine of you Smile", a very old song that my mother used to sing when I was little.
By the way Chas Hodges, of Chas 'n' Dave fame, was the bassist in the Outlaws, and was also their lead singer when I saw them at The Park Hotel in Hanwell in 1964.

I always got him mixed up with Dave Berry whose biggest hit was "The Crying Game".

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

THAT'S the one - I remember it now. It's tucked away somewhere - with 'Capstick Comes Home' and 'I Won't Go Hunting With You, Jake, But I'll Go Chasing Women'.

Didn't he always wear black gloves - or maybe one black glove?

Hence my earlier question ... are they related?

I took some patients to see The Solid Silver 60s Show a few years back, Dave Dee et al, Peter Noone, Mike Pender's Searchers and 'Mysterious' Dave Berry. He was a hoot .... all dry ice, one black glove and leather trousers, trouble was he looked like Wilfred Bramble!

Bats.

Edit: I just checked on Wikipedia and they're not related ... Dave's real name is Grundy, while Mike is a Bourne.

Aitch,
On the 40th anniversary of Buddy Holly's death I went to The Winter Gardens in Bournemouth to see a tribute concert; Dave Edmunds, Albert Lee and Mike Berry were performing. Excellent night and they are all very talented .

According to another site, it was Robin Colvill of The Grumbleweeds.
Gold star for Mrs. Aitch!
