Am I the only one who doesn't find this in the least bit funny or entertaining? Maybe it's just me that doesn't like someone shouting at me to tell me when to laugh. Just a poor man's Have I Got News For You in my opinion and even that lost its teeth these years ago.

I have to disagree here Torque .... along with QI (which I only warmed to recently), Mock the Week is the only programme that consistently makes me laugh.

Re Have I Got News For You ... zzzzzzzzzzz (apart from Paul Merton, who still comes out with the odd gem)

Well bats we certainly have seen a parting of the ways on this one.

Dara O'Briain smugger than Deayton and only half as funny (if that's possible)

Frankie Boyle - shouting it and being as deliberately spiteful as possible does not make something funnier

Andy Parson - I never knew it was possible for someone live so long being so loud and so unfunny, while looking like a hairless gerbil with it's bottom set missing.

Then again I never liked Whose Line is it Anyway so..

But HIGNFY is very boring these days you're right about that.

I like Mock the Week, but have stopped watching because the material the comics us is often from their live shows. So if you like to buy comedy DVDs such as those by Dara O'Briarn, Russell Howard etc you enjoyment of them is spoilt by having seen some of the gags on MtW.

QI is probably the most consistently funny show on TV, and you do actually learn things as well

I like QI too, but switch off if Jimmy Carr is on.

I think everyone in Mock the Week is talented, but I can't stand the show. But millions watch it, and not even tens ask me for my opinion, so I must be wrong on this one. I still like Have I Got News for You; I think one of its strengths is that it doesn't have to be constantly funny - there's no opportunity for anyone to do a 'bit'.

I think QI is consistently disappointing, and I think Stephen Fry has done himself a great disservice by chairing it. He pretends that there is an intellectual aspect to it, but there isn't - it's just comedy. I always thought Fry would be good on something that actually used his intellect; I don't think I'm alone in thinking he is quite a witty bloke, and surely there's room on TV for something that is actually difficult, but quite funny?

I don't want to cry "Why oh why oh why oh why can't everything be exactly the same as it was in 1972", but when I was a kid (then) I used to like those 'light' programmes like Call My Bluff or that music one with the silent piano that my Mum and Dad watched, and looked forward to the day I'd actually be able to enjoy them fully. Little did I know that TV entertainment was coming down to meet me as a ten year old.

If I sound pompous, it's because I am.

Not much point in complaining to Stephen Fry, though ...

The amount of intellectual content varies a lot, depending on the panellists. Try it when there are some clever people on there, not just quick witted comics, but truly clever people

most of the comedy shows of this type are on at 10pm which is way past my bed time but i think 'mock the week' is merely a 'whose line is it anyway' and 'have i got news for you' mongrel and have now tired of it,what do forum members think of 'we need answers'?

Isn't that why they invented video & DVD recorders?

We Need Answers was a bit of fun, certainly not to be taken at all seriously.

Stephen Fry is the stupid persons idea of an intellectual. When, O when is he going to slither away from our screens and wipe the trail of slime that accompanies off behind him?

Personally, I hope he doesn't, as I like him - but I agree with the "stupid persons idea of an intellectual." I wish he'd stop playing that role, and do something challenging, and not so easy.

His problem is he still thinks he's a modern day Oscar Wilde.

I believe he too wishes he could do that, but his illness is one that reduces one's self-confidence and self-esteem. So it is likely he stays within his comfort zone for the sake of his health. He has had one highly publicised health issue, so I would think he is careful what work he undertakes these days.

I agree with most of the above! I still think "Have I Got News For You" has its moments. btw it seems to me your posts have a much sharper edge to them these days - not complaining, I'm enjoying them!

The problem is, and it's not his fault or his problem, he is a modern day Oscar Wilde

Playwright, author, actor, director, wit, jail bird and all round genius. He was perfectly cast in the 1997 biographical film

I'd go along with "jail bird" and "all round" - but add "mediocrity" to the latter. OW would have had him (no pun intended) for aphoristic breakfast....

I'm only surprised that one or more of Fry's twittering claque haven't gone as far as describing the great OW as "an old-skool Stephen Fry". Or maybe they have. Or maybe he has (in 140 characters or less)?

Is it because he's English and not Irish that you don't like Stephen Fry?
