These two were the Doctor Who incarnatios of my childhood and I was wondering if all the episodes are available on DVD yet?

I've tried Googling but there doesn't seem anywhere near enough.

I think there are quite a number of episodes still unavailable. I do know that Dr Who and The Creature From The Pit was released by 2Entertain last week though.

Does anyone have a link to a good DW site where I can find out about the DVD releases in advance?

I used to use the Doctor Who restoration Team website, but their DVD update seems to have ceased after The Space Museum/The Chase - thus I was somewhat caught on the back foot by The Creature From The Pit, as I was utterly unaware that it was coming...

Thanks very much Number Six and Gerald, much appreciated.

It's a shame they didn't release what is available in date order as I'd like to have been able to watch them evolve, as every series does.

There's also 'Gallifrey Base' which gets regular inputs from members of the BBC Restoration Team and the elusive Ian Levene who gets many a fans temper raised.

    Gallifrey Base

One heated debate is that most fans want a complete colour release of 'The Mind Of Evil'. But it's going to be exorbitantly expensive to colourise episode one from scratch.

I know, but they don't want to release all the good stories first like they did with the old video range.

I also can't wait for 'The Seeds Of Doom'.

I suppose yeah, see the logic to that, haven't seen the seeds of doom in ages, great story.

Im just looking forward to the laughter on Android Invasion commentary when evil Sarah's face drops off :-)

Why not buy the VHS version? The quality of the DVD ones released does not seem to offer any improvement. If you wait on 2 Entertain issuing anything you will probably still be waiting on most of them in 10 years time at their rate of progress.

I had another idea. I found a link on a fansite and have bought the ntire set of Pertwee and Baker episodes (series 7 to series 18) on 90 DVDRs. I'm assured the quality is good, the packaging looks decent enough and if I'm being honest all Ireally want is the episodes, I'm very rarely interested enough to listen to commentaries even on my favourite films.

    So mission accomplished, post willing.

Jon & Tom (plus Pat Troughton) were far and away the best Doctors IMHO. Pertwee was "my" Doctor growing up, although I remember as far back as Troughton's "The Underwater Menace" which was around 1967. Jon was a hard act to follow and I remember being initially disappointed at how "silly" the new Doctor with the big stripey scarf seemed at first...of course after a few episodes I realised he was brilliant. Here's a clipping I found on the internet from a 1974 Radio Times...

...and a more recent advertisement for the apparently huge-on-the-inside VW Golf, suitably endorsed by Jon, Tom and fellow Doctor Peter Davison:

Probably a better idea than mine since some of the VHS episodes are only available in B/w the BBC having wiped the original colour tapes. Hope your purchase turns out to be OK.

IMO, the DVD releases are substantially better quality than those released on VHS. There are some issues with NTSC conversions for some of the Jon Pertwee episodes, but even putting the often extensive extras aside, I do think the DVDs are a big step up from what was available before.

Also, I believe the BBC hope to have everything out on DVD by the programme's 50th anniversary in 2013.

Have you watched the DVD releases for 'The Chase', 'The Web Planet', 'The Seeds Of Death' or 'The War Games'?

Their like different shows since the DVD picture is so pin sharp compared with the fuzzy and distorted old video releases with hundreds of picture faults?

We watched the Tom Baker story 'The Horns Of Nimon' last night and even though it's a story from early 1980, the picture quality is amazing compared to the VHS copy I took back twice because the picture quality varied and I never managed to get a decent copy.

So classic Dr Who has never looked so good thanks to DVD.

Plus the release rate has been stepped up a bit, but I don't mind waiting as long as it means we get them presented in the highest possible quality. So quality over quantity.

Although with new advanced processes they were able to successfully colourise the one episode of the 1973 story 'Planet Of The Daleks' that was left in black & white.

Costs will dictate whether they'll do the same for the other Pertwee stories and even the NTSC copies have been greatly improved for the DVD releases.
