Does anyone have a full list of the day's schedule?

    From the BFI:

    The LIME GROVE STORY

    Notes

    Slot.

    Library Synopsis

Special slot on BBC2 celebrating the 41 year old history of Lime Grove, and presenting some of the classic films and television programmes made there, as well as compilation and other special programmes, shown throughout the day on the Bank Holiday Monday of 26th August 1991. [See Radio Times 24-30 August 1991 for details of programmes and films shown in the special slot].

(Maybe someone has this Radio Times?)

Cheers Captain, that's brilliant. I now know what I'm after: Limelight - the film years, and it's 45 minutes! The clips on Youtube look good, methinks I need to track it down.

I did recall this programme being part of it (not from first time around!). The BFI seems to confirm it - perhaps there wasn't two hours of cricket?

I have a funny feeling that this was in fact the "pilot" version; the first time it had been transmitted.

Sorry, that was there. BTW, I keep saying this but it's still true, this sort of information is available to anyone who makes use of their library card. You don't even need to actually go to the library Just check out what sort of online resources you library offers by remote access and it will almost cetainly include some newspaper archives.

    Hi Whovians,

I confirm also, by memory, that this was the pilot. I recall the main difference was that the junk yard contained some sinister looking dummies or manikins. These do not appear in the official first episode of UNEARTHLY CHILD.

Just an extra piece of useless information. Episode 1 of Doctor Who, was broadcast two weeks running. Episode 2 appeared after the repeat of episode 1. The fact that the country was in the grip of Beatlemania, and the Beatles were the panelists on JUKE BOX JURY afterwards. Coincidence or significant?

Further useless information, Nigel Kneale in the Radio Times once was very scathing about STAR TREK and DOCTOR WHO.

Even more useless information:: The origianal puppet of Muffin the Mule, made a special appearance in colour, in between some items.

    Alan French.

I've been watching this day's programmes transferred to DVD. There seems to be another omission in your listing, Captain - Dixon of Dock Green was only 30mins, not 95! Perhaps I'll soon find out what was next.

    Hi everybody,
i've been wracking my brain for years to recall, but wasn't there a bbc drama set in the early days of bbc tv broadcasting?, i have an idea it was made to commemorate the anniversay of Lime Grove which should be approproate to this thread (early 1990's).
Does anybody remember it or its title?.

It's The Fools On The Hill, written by Jack Rosenthal, directed by David Giles and produced by Peter Wolfes, broadcast Monday, 27 October 1986. It commemorated the first BBC television broadcasts, starting 2 November 1936 at Alexandra Palace.

The Fools On The Hill mixed real and imaginary characters in its story. It's interesting that neither the BBC nor ITV have produced many dramas about UK television history - I mean history of particular periods - apart from a few bioplays about well-known TV people like John Reith.

    Thanks guys, that's the one!.
Hadn't realised it was quite that far back!.
I found a watcheable copy on Youtube, looks fairly lousy on the TV through, and there doesn't seem to be a dvd release at present.
Not had much luck finding a capture on the net to d/l -so i guess i need to wait until the beeb repeat it again!
I'm with you Westengland, don't know why there aren't more dramas like this around.
    Cheers -Gmork

It's sad that Lime Grove was demolished. It was riddled with asbestos and the cost of sanitising it while the buildings were in place was way too expensive so demolition was the only option
