Can anyone remember the days when the BBC used to screen a movie on Monday night at 9pm. I can remember the whole family would settle down to watch…… Ah those were the days lad.. Why does the BBC not show movies on the telly now anyway?

Probably the main reason is Mr Murdoch's Sky TV and The pay per View Channels......nice signature wellpip.....

I think that the films used to start at 9.25 after the news finished. They would go on to about 11.30pm or so and in those days I would keep awake as well. I have a strong feeling that we are talking about the mid 70's here.

TV now has a ridiculous fixation with ratings for it's News broadcasts and so the News comes on at 10pm and doesn't finish til 10.30pm, meaning that it's too late to watch a film live.

Thinking back, I seem to remember that Monday night was one of the better nights on TV.

Not only did we get a good film, including some of the first X certificate films that I got to see But BBC2 used to offer Alias Smith & Jones, Horizon and even The Waltons. ITV only had half hour of Coronation Street and so it could offer The Sweeney or possibly Hunters Walk, even World In Action had some classic programmes. I know that there are other forum members out there with access to TV listings magazines who can probably illustrate my point. (Cornershop still about )

Many thanks to Wearysloth for illustrating the point perfectly. I would love to see those films on the box again.
