If the Jonathan Ross show was still going then it would be wossy hands down but as you know he has left the BBC, so the big chat show hosts on tele now are Graham Norton and Alan Carr (If there is a chat show host that is better than Carr and Norton then please say so.) I think that Carr is the better host but Norton has the better chat system in the way that he has all of his guests on at the same time rather than introducing them one by on on his show. And as far as big guests go there both fairly even with Carr getting guests like; Sam Jackson and Usher, and Norton getting guests like P diddy Helen Mirren, so it is hard to decide who the better host is. Ross will be having a new chat show on ITV in october this year so when he comes back I'm sure he will be the king of chat. But right now who do you think the better chat show host is and if I have failed to mention a big current chat show host then please leave a comment. Cheers.

Has Mark Lawson has any big guests on?
I' d also vote for Mark Lawson -
"Mark Lawson Talks to..." (2003) - Episode list
I also like Paul O'Grady. I don't watch often as I don't like the format of the show but when he has a guest on he appreciates he asks sensible interesting questions and listens to their answers producing a proper conersation not an excuse for a lot of pre prepared gags.
Just a lot
Alan Bennett, Jane Horrocks, Tracey Emin, Timothy Spall, Julie Walters, Alison Steadman, Stephen Fry, Gilbert & George, Phil Collins, Tom Jones, Jimmy McGovern, Ian Hislop etc. etc. etc.
In his "Mark Lawson talks to ..." series it's a full half hour interview with a single guest (or 2 in the case of Gilbert & George), and it's a full in-depth discussion about their career not a 5 minute light hearted chat where they are allowed to promote their latest project.
He would certainly get my vote
Steve
i'd agree with the majority that mark lawson is the best 'chat' show host-in fact he is the only host i would bother watching nowadays,i liked david frost in that role too.
I certainly wouldn't rate Jonathon Ross as a chat-show host, his programme was little more than a childish plugfest.
We never miss Graham Norton. He makes you feel like you are having a few friends over for drinks & having a laugh. Even watching his repeats we still find it new & funny.![]()
they're all crap - only Parkinson treated his guests with interest and had no 'I'm-really-the-star-of-this-show' agenda. So many valuable interviews with stars of the recent and less recent past - go to youtube and have a look if you don't believe me. Woss!?!??! Don't get me started on that 'interviewer'
That's why so many people like Mark Lawson. It's never about him. He knows a lot about the people he's interviewing, he's interested in what they have to say and he lets them say it - even if it takes them away from the "script" of the interview. He will let them finish and then bring it back on course. His interviews are about the subject of the interview, not about the interviewer
Steve
Mark Lawson would get my vote.
I thought Mr. Ross was a filthy narcistic twit and I am sorry he's coming back as a cat show host later this year.
