    Hi,
I know it is not new for broadcasters to buy, commission, import or whatever, programmes. But certainly since the sub-contract policy in industries, as from the 1980's and 1990's, there seems less television, and now radio programmes, produced by people like the BBC and other broadcasting networks. I know that I am watching television far less than I used to. So perhaps I am under the wrong impression and am talking out the back of my head. But I am wondering what actually are the BBC and ITA organisations today, compared with what they used to be? Are they just broadcasters? And what percentage of out put are programmes made by the BBC and other broadcasters?

As far as I know, all the ITV companies like Meridian, TSW etc., don't do much now apart from selling of commercial space and local news. They don't commission programmes for national television. I'm not sure what happens with regional programmes, are there any now? ITV is one "network" and commissions programmes from independent production companies as does the BBC. Then you have Sky and UKtv etc., who all commission programmes from production companies now as well as showing repeats. When I worked for regional ITV companies, they used to be quite independent of each other, they made both regional and national programmes and held their own master tapes, but not now.

    Hi,
Thankyou for that information. It fits in with my image of what the television is like today. I do not know if that is good or bad. But interesting anyway.
