After tonight's episode it's time to give up on this re-make, and I bet lots of others will too. Way too much music, oh how I yearn for 5 minutes of silence from the 1970s series to emphasis how 'gone' is our modern world of noise, but the production team have go this all wrong. Too many ho-hum characters who are not as varied as the 1970s series. Bring back Talfryn (RIP)...it's as if the Beeb has sat at the feet of Russell T Davies and said: 'What else did you enjoy when you were a kid/teenager?" and commissioned. Next Day of the Triffids, but please, no modern-style Dr Who sweeping score.

The original first series was quite scary for its time as I remember, and the opening titles set the scene extremely well. I thought that the show lost its way during the second batch of episodes although I know some people actually preferred the second series to the first. I think the new version started off well, but I don't think the viewing public are alarmed by shows like this anymore as we have become saturated with films and tv that portray similar story lines. The old series made you think about what it would be like to be put into a situation where a virus could wipe out a whole generation. Now there doesn't seem to be any element of shock anymore.

That was in the Ban the Bomb and germ warfare days when Saddam wiped out a village or two. Now the media wants us to be frightened of Bird Flu. Be sure the 3rd episode with one of it's themes as 'summary justice' is true though we are conditioned to many horrors via 24 hour news, internet and satellite coms. so it is all a bit of a yawn.

Haven't had a chance to read more than the last couple of comments, however I am a fan of the original and, although I have yet to watch the third episode, have to say that this remake is nowhere near as bad as it could have been, I expected it to be far worse ... but maybe I'll change my mind after episode three!

having said that, the 'new' Abby Grant (played by an actress whose name escapes me, although I do know I am NOT a fan having seen her in other things) isn't a patch on the original ... in any sense!

I agree. I find Julie Graham's portrayal of Abby Grant a little irritating not only in Survivors but other shows that she has appeared in.

Julie Graham's acting is poor, mind you, nobody else is standing out. Too short a series, too loud, very poor script, I'm very disappointed to be honest.

All the best
