The series was called Odd Man Out and it was written by Vince Powell, who wrote a lot of crap comedies for ITV in the seventies and eighties. John Inman played Neville Sutcliffe, who was running a fish and chip shop in Blackpool, when he inherited his father's seaside rock factory in Littlehampton.
I remember the first episode and he met one of the girls who worked in the factory,a buxom blonde (maybe Pat Ashton) and he asked her where she was from and she replied:"Bristol". Looking at her ample bosom,he said "I'm not surprised",or something like that. Even back then in 1977,I didn't find it amusing. I agree with TimR,he was best as part of a group, but as an individual he was forever Mr Humphries, who relied upon "I'm free" as a cue for laughs. Like Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em,Are You Being Served as not stood the test of time. Ta Ta Marky B
