The Best: John Mills, Sylvia Syms, Harry Andrews.; Carlsberg

The worst; Steve McQueen, Ford Puma......I loathe this ad, it gives a sick and morbid new meaning to the term "Steve McQueen wouldn't be seen dead in a rubbish little car like that"! Obviously poor Steve had no control over those who thought it a good idea to desicrate his super cool personna from "Bullitt" and promote a naff car! At least John Mills and Sylvia Syms and Harry Andrews were all alive when the Carlsberg ad was devised and were payed serious money for their participation. Sylvia Syms wryly revealed in a TV interview that she received £30,000. A lot more than she received for appearing in the original film from where the ad came from!

Best - Arthur Lowe promoting 'Hanky Panky'

Worst - 'Celebrities' promoting supermarkets - just so patronising

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

The "worst timing" award must go to Kellogs Special K.

They were right in the middle of a major TV campaign using veteran actor John Slater to promote their cereal as the best start to the day for "mature" persons.

Then he keels over with a heart attack and dies.

Ah Yes, the Soviet Union. All them wheatfields and ballet in the evenings

One nobody else seems to remember, Terry-Thomas advert for (I think) Harveys Bristol Cream Liqueur chocs. A yuletide advert where the shop assistant offers to stuff said chocs in a brown paper bag, TT replies dryly that he need not to bother with the gift wrapping

The worst - those really naff Holsten Pils ones with Griff Rhys Jones, especially the one featuring poor ol' Steve McQueen (again) in The Great Escape.

The best - Paul Newman advertising Newman's Own salad dressings.

Bats.

Cardew Robinson in the Cadbury's Fruit and Nut adverts from the early 1970s.

George Clooney did quite well in the Martini adverts, didn't he, sending up his image.

... and very funny! I'd forgotten about those. I haven't seen it but someone once told me Marlon Brando did a really funny one for Japanese whisky.

I'll have a look, it may be on youtube.
