Default Cranford

I've not seen any posts regarding this BBC costume drama.

Is nobody watching it ? , apart from my household.

My wife and I love it, I think Imelda Staunton steals every scene she's in.

I usually enjoy most BBC costume dramas but I couldn't get into Cranford. Mrs Bat is really enjoying it though.

It's lovely - if only the characters could last a bit longer; Michael Gambon and Eileen Atkins only lasted about a week and a half each - and one poor child didn't even last a whole episode!

I loved it. An excellent production from the BBC.

I agree. Beautifully done right up to the last 30 minutes - at which point it collapsed like an overcooked souffle.

I read Cranford itself for A level and don't remember it at all but I understand that they took themes & characters from three of Gaskell's 'Knutsford' novels. The result was that there were far too many stories to tidy up all at once. This smacks of a failure of nerve over the ability of the original material to sustain the viewer's interest over a short series; in spite of a heavyweight cast and production.
