I've bought my Sister the Margaret Rutherford Collection of Miss Marple Films for Christmas from HMV, so we'll probably see a couple of them.......(and an England that once was.....LOL!!)

So what are YOU planning to watch on television over Christmas?

Dave.
Dave:

Yes, I remember it too! Every year-end from about Dec. 4th until about Jan 6th UK television was a literal cornucopia of delights... a medley of the best shows, best movies, best documentaries, best musicals, best pantomimes, best comedies, best specials of the past 25+ years.

That's truly one thing I miss about living here in the USA (Ok - so we have about 120 channels here, but I struggle, really struggle, to find decent programming, even at Christmas - maybe I should add ESPECIALLY at Christmas!!)

I'm pretty snug in my living room here with rented and recorded DVDs from years past, or recently purchased (thanks Doc!) but why can't I find decent shows here in the USA ???

I've heard about the (US) doctrine of "separation of Church and State" but this is ridiculous!!

Been saving a few Xmas editions of various comedy series like The Arthur Haynes Show and Sykes. Hopefully if I've been sufficiently good this year Santa might bring me the Danger Man box set so I will be watching some of that.

Very little TV being broadcast over Christmas glancing at the schedules, I will take in To The Manor Born though.

Having watched The Railway Children today, I shall endeavour to watch The Snow Goose first thing tomorrow. If I can prise another time slot, I'll try for A Canterbury Tale.

Don't start me off again!

It has to be the most emotionally charged line ever uttered in a British film - though I can't think of one in a foreign film to match it either!

Next most emotional ending has to be the recent Cranford.

Television in the UK is at an all time low so I'll probably watch DVDs on our telly, although tonight there's a comedy drama about an hotel on at 9pm which may be worth a look. We'll also get the Monopoly out, Buckaroo and a few other favourites and enjoy the time in front of a roaring fire, eating all the stuff that goes with Christmas, and remembering how much better the season was when we were kids.

I don't miss Morcambe and Wise, The Generation Game, Only Fools and Horses or the 3-2-1 Christmas Special but what I do miss is sneaking out after lunch to see your mates and see what they received from Santa, and also going to the pub in the village I grew up in and seeing all the dads wearing their new jumpers, shirts and Santa socks and ties, and the whole bar area filled with the irresitable aroma of Old Spice, Brut 33 and Hai Karate!

Driving home for Christmas from Sydney to Newcastle (NSW), our local ABC radio had an interview with a fellow from Northern England who (re-re-re ... re-re)celebrates Christmas 365 days a year , including watching - from his large collection over the years - one of the Queen's Christmas messages.

I think he's known as "The Christmas Man" (very original) and is supposed to have his own web site, but couldn't remember what it was (and can't find it)

This is war Wilson, not Sainsburys!
