Default What Will You Watch This Christmas?

Maybe times have changed but I always remember as a child how exciting British television was at Christmas.
Full of new shows & films, Christmas specials and variety shows.
Picking up the TV Times and Radio Times at Christmas back then was an exciting prospect, planning the Christmas viewing ahead.

Christmas time here in Australia coincides with free-to-air televisions three month "non rating period" and so from November to February we can just expect the same old films and tons of repeats. Dead boring!
Christmas Day here is the best time to play those DVD's received as Chrissy presents. My family also has a Christmas ritual of playing "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation".
I have also made DVD's of our favourite Christmas specials over the years including Men Behaving Badly, Only Fools and Horses, On The Buses, Fresh Fields, Steptoe & Son, Royale Family etc.. and these usually get an airing in our home at Christmas.

So what are YOU planning to watch on television over Christmas?

Dave.

DVDs -

I'm getting DANGER MAN and SPECIAL BRANCH, so they will be top of the list. For 'upper bracket' viewing I am getting JUDI DENCH AT THE BBC, whilst for bunting and frolic there will be THE TWO RONNIES XMAS SPECIALS and likewise for MORECAMBE & WISE.

Telly-wise up until New Year most of the films seem to be aimed at children, so there will be very little of that. Not much on at all worth seeing this Xmas. Radio may prove more fruitful, with Derek Jacobi reading a number of stories from M.R. JAMES.

Must admit that I like nothing better when I'm on hols than to get up very early in the morning and start the day with an hour of old 1970s London Weekend TV sitcoms with a relaxing cuppa.

And of course I'd love to catch up with some of the hundreds of films that so many generous and friendly traders from this board have sent me over the last 18 months ; in this I am WAY behind....

I haven't seen anything in the holiday TV listings that takes my fancy .... I expect I will have to rely on whatever DVDs I get for Christmas .... plus lots of kids stuff .... and The Lost People, which I am saving for the 27th when Mrs Bat and The Boy Wonder are out for the day.

After the work I have put in for the past couple of weeks in the kitchen - and continuing to do so - I am anticipating watching the inside of my eyelids for at least 48 hours over Christmas!

YDSL x.

The Christmas countdown has begun - don't leave it all until the last minute!

I shall most definitely be watching The Railway Children.

Mrs Fell told me there was only one thing I would want for Christmas and that I'm getting it - I'm still trying to work out how on earth she managed that

All the best

Like one or two others, my Danger Man box set is finally being released from the cupboard prison in which it has been held for several months. Many Happy Returns are guaranteed!!

I must admit to being poised over the TV schedules with my highlighter but so far all I've managed is 'Antiques Roadshow' tomorrow and a note to set the video-player for New Years Eve and 'The Third Man + Third Man docu' on BBC4.

Hopefully I can sink enough beer to get through the segueing editions of Eastenders, Coronations and Emmerdales...... familiy life is such fun!......

Well you're quite likely to get the second one. I've just started (& finished) my Christmas shopping today and they're all over the shops.

But I am totally cream crackered after a 7 hour shopping marathon
