so callled modern tv today is not my cup of tea. Britsh tv programming has deteriated over the years. Today we have a lot of rubish,so do the Americans and other countries also. A lot depends upon your taste. To make matters worst,we have to pay for the right to have a telly in our home, licence fee. The americans and canaians do not have this fee.

I remember when working in the States how awful I thought their TV was and thought "Thank goodness for British and Australian TV". Having spent time in Australia I then saw their TV deteriorate down to the American low standard. Here in Britain it's all arrived here now and don't think that's the end of it because there is to come just after the start of a programme commercials or promos and once the programme has ended more commercials and promos then the closing titles for that programme. The TV companies are not bothered because they know that some mindless individuals somewhere will watch regardless.

I was stunned the other night when I watched, a rare occasion indeed, a show called TV's Naughtiest Blunders.
British TV output has sunk that low and it's scrapping the bottom of a very deep barrel.I've come to the conclusion that, as I hardly watch any TV, I'm not going to renew my TV licence when it expires next May. £139.50 per year - for a catalogue of utter crap - they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. ![]() I shall watch programmes on-line only and view DVD's on my computer. |

The saddest thing about British television today is ITV completely retreating from making new, fresh dramas. With them now it's all about big names and beautiful scenery. The BBC no longer sees a need to compete at the high end unless it's broadcasting on BBC4 for 2 million viewers. The middle ground has vanished because TV companies want to appeal to the 18-30 age group that don't watch television anyway. Mainstream television shouldn't be showing money making quizzes verbatum. They are sandelous.

I agree with some of the earlier posts. I think that TV is getting worse, since there is less choice. I'm not a fan of reality style TV. Big brother doesn't interest me, and I can't be bothered to watch the endless range of "talent" shows, just like an endless re run of Opportunity Knocks or New Faces, taking each medium.... singing, dancing...... you name it and giving it a series all of its own.
Every now and then there is still a gem to be found on TV, I loved George Gently, Foyles War..... but then what I see as a gem, otheres might hate. I just find that in the main we are over run with cheap and nasty reality TV, and that I find less and less on TV that I want to watch....... which is good, forces me to do far more interesting things rather than sitting in front of the TV all night.
