Take it you want to know about the stuff being released in the last few years....
From BBC: - First of all, definitely Hustle....one of the best series of all times. Then, as a few also mentioned before: - New Tricks - eagerly awaiting the Season 4 box because I missed the ep with Cole and Waterman in it. - Waking the Dead - except for the episode where the girl was beinged hanged and her face torn off - boy, what a shock that was... ...couldn't sleep for two nights ;-)- Spooks - especially the later episodes with Ros and Adam - very cool stuff, much liek The Professionals many moons ago. From ITV: - A touch of Frost - Wire in the blood (except yesterday's boring USA-episode) - Diamond Geezer - George Cole playing on a scalextric track in the old folkes home and then racing around in a Focus ST wearing tartan slippers....sooo cool. The only thing I watch on TV on a regular basis is Heartbeat. I have loved it from the day it first premiered and I believe that it still, after sixteen years, still maintains the high level of quality that it always have. (I will always choose the Nick Berry and Jason Durr years as my favourites though.)

Top stuff in last few years?
Dr Who - I think David Tennant has been excellent. New Tricks - Armstrong, Bolam and Waterman superb. Life on Mars - series one in particular Cranford - astonishingly good, it would hardly have been possible to improve the cast [except in one respect ]Spooks - brilliant first two series [not just for herself], I thought it lost it in series 3 but then got back well on track. |

Poliakoff's Joe's Palace came in for some real stick but I'm standing up for it. Best television drama from last year.
Blink from Doctor Who was very impressive The recent Morecambe and Wise: In Their Own Words. Finally a presentation that went beyond the tiresome clip show format. Looked like some thought and care had gone into it Arena: Ken Dodd. Same with this. Jam and Jerusalem is pretty good. The above might be new programmes but they are all connected with past glories, nothing brand spanking new springs to mind. |

Hi
I enjoyed `my boy Jack` around Christmas time, it was well done. `Dots story` Top gear in the North pole was good cos Clarkson is funny. I agree about `wire in the blood` except for that American episode (What were they thinking!!!!!). I dont watch it now since Niahm(sp?) Cussack left all those years ago but Heatbeat was always good, is Eddie Yates still in it????????????? I used to wait in anticipation every week for `Bramwell` to come on. Apart from that, not much has impressed me in the last 10 years, this reality tv movement is a waste of film and my time! Last edited by faginsgirl; 11-02-2008 at 12:11 PM.. |

The other programme that has rather impressed me lately is BBC 4's The Late Edition Live hosted by Marcus Brigstocke.
Like a cross between Ben Elton and Mark Lamaar, he delivers his half hour programme with some intelligent satire and rapier wit. His guests are usually well suited to the programme. If you want a good laugh, tune in on Wednesday evening between 10.30 and 11.00pm. |

Last night there was a BBC4 70s offering of the opening episode of The Brothers (which I'd never seen before) followed by a documentary about the series. In its day it attracted 15 million viewers, but being on a Sunday evening and with only 3 channels to choose from, no VCRs, and mainly Formica topped table pubs smelling like a bookie's shop on Grand National Day. it was bound to be a winner.
So there are some good bits in the schedule, albeit mostly repeats, but if its programmes you've not seen before then great. The real test would be to turn of digi boxes, abandon Sky and Cable say on a Saturday or Sunday and just see how many people bother watching the terrestrial 5? I'd say Match of the Day, Heartbeat (if it's on) and Antiques Roadshow would be the only ones with anything like acceptable viewing figures. Last edited by samkydd; 11-02-2008 at 02:23 PM.. |

Makes me think of one Angus Deaton's hilarious comments made in one of the early 'Have I got News for you' episodes. The topic was something about Selina Scott moving over to a Channel 5 chat show. 'Unfortunately the viewing figures have dropped by more than two thirds......... it's currently being watched by a severed arm!!' The Brothers was a good series .It also was appealing because it had Kate o'Mara and Gabrielle Drake in it, as well of course as Jean Anderson. Last edited by scholes; 13-02-2008 at 01:09 PM.. |

Great fly-on-the-wall documentary about Windsor Castle last night, with the Duke of Edinburgh driving around the farms on the estate in his Landrover Discovery. It also showed the Cartier hospitality stand at the annual polo match, and my goodness what a bunch of ignorant and ill-bred socialites were there, mixing it with the celebs. "Oh look, the Queen's driving her car herself, that's just amazing!" said one baseball cap wearing scruffbag of a yuppie !
