If you listen to the sketch, there are only ever two lines of the song actually sung:

Will you miss me tonight when I'm gone?
Will you love me the same from now on?
....and the backing is 'boom, oo, yata-ta-ta.

It isn't "Are You Lonesome Tonight" - but it IS similar.

Green and Hills only wrote for Eric and Ernie for one series. When Eric had his heart attack, thinking their writing careers were over they went to America and wrote for the Antony Newley Show, Keep U.S. beautiful. They did return to England and continued writing. Sadly both have now passed away.

It was Eddie Braben who began to write for them from 1969 onwards until they left for Thames tv in 1979. Braben couldn't follow due to his BBC contract.

Strange to think that if it wasn't for Eric's first heart attack they might never have worked with EB and therefore none of the classic sketches.

With Eddie Braben not following them to ITV,was probably the reason why their shows were not as good as the BBC days.

I love Eric and Ern despite not being born when Eric died. Just shows how good they were. I love the unfinished limericks from Eric never went too far but you knew what they were getting at. Honest vulgarity thats what made them so innocent and timeless

Green and Hills did work on the later ITV ones when M & W were getting desperate for ideas.

EB did eventually go to ITV to work with them but the damage had been done by then. The ITV series were essentially inferior retreads of the BBC ones.

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

Okay - who can list all the theme/end of show songs (such as Bring Me Sunshine) Eric and Ernie sang? - here's a starter for ten - Two of a Kind.

If you get a chance, go see "The Play Wot I Wrote". A superb and moving tribute to Eric and Ernie. The guest star at our performance was William Roache. He took some ribbing that night. Simply joyous.

Anyone else seen this?

Alas,no. Lack of oppurtunity. It has attracted big stars such as our Sir Rog,Kenneth Branagh etc.

Branagh directed the original production ... I saw it with Brian Conley as the 'guest', it was hilarious!

Happy Birthday Daddy .... I love you!

For some reason I ended up seeing it three times - with Richard Wilson, Charles Dance and Jerry Hall. The best bits were Toby Jones' unconvincing impersonations of the guests but it was all good.
