I had the pleasure of Doreen and Ernest's hospitality on numerous occasions.

She was quite enamoured by my namedropping that I'd worked with two of her favourites......Vince Hill and Des O'Connor!

(From Ralph to Vince and Des......two degrees of seperation)

There was one good reason why I didn't stop at Keld - no pubs. The first year I did the C2C,we walked from Kirkby Stephen to Reeth (not a good idea) and camped the night. The following year,we stopped the walk at Keld and got a taxi to Reeth (the YHA at Keld was closed on that very day) and the following morning a Sherpa van took us back to Keld to pick the walk up again. Last year we did the same, apart from the owner of our B&B picked us up and dropped us off at Keld the following morning.
Doreen (Whitehead?) publishes the little book which gives recommendations on places to stop on the C2C.
RVW's music often goes through my head when I am rambling in the countryside, particularly the Tallis Theme and The Lark Ascending. Now I am getting acquainted with his other music, perhaps I will adapt them in my thoughts as I breath in our countryside.

BBC's The Culture Show had a five minute piece on The Lark Ascending tonight. It is usually repeated, or failing that you could see it via iplayer.

It must be doing the circuit. It featured briefly on Emmerdale last night as background for music for a sunny summer garden party.
