Smile Antiques Programmes

I quite like Antiques Roadshow, but the rest want putting in a skip. Cash In The Attic and Bargain Hunt are not only presented by terrible presenters, but the music drives you nuts. Decent ITC programmes should be shown rather than these.

Flog It! is the only other one I've enjoyed watching. I do think seeing these things realise a price is excellent. I do think Roadshow can be a bit theoretical at times, so far as pricing is concerned.

I should get my Danger Man collection valued sometime.........

It's interesting as a programme. But they always do it the wrong way around on this and all the similar programmes. They buy at a car boot sale and sell at an auction. If they did it the other way around then they'd stand a lot better chance of making money - but then that's not really the point is it?

I like "Flog it" and, to a lesser extent, "Bargain Hunt" - but I must admit that the main appeal is the expert that they sometimes have on, Catherine Southon !

Before antiques shows became rife on TV I used to enjoy going to furniture auctions and finding inexpesive but unusual items, not necessarily valuable, but usually good quality furniture made from decent wood by craftsmen rather than buying new chipboard crud made by CAD software and self tapping screws.

Now you can't get in the places for speculative housewives who, when they're not playing at being property developers or interior designers, are also antiques experts now as well! Consequently at some auctions I've been too recently prices have been falsely inflated because these idiots will buy anything they think they may have seen on Flog It the week before, and so even the most modest pieces become vastly overpriced.

They haven't leaned the lesson unfortunately, which is basically "If they're making TV programmes about it, you're too bloody late!"

This applies also to buying property abroad; France, Tuscany, Spain etc, relocating to some backwater in Wales in the hope of clearing the mortgage, redecorating your house to look like a brothel, landscaping your back yard to look like the garden of a brothel etc.

Hmm, what does the garden of a brothel look like?
And how do you know?

Being a keen collector of Antiques i love Antique road show as for the rest sorry i think they are awful, i used to get Bargin Hunt tapped for me when David Dickinson was on it but i hate the man that does it now.

Live each day to the full because one day it will be your last.
