Default TV Licence Fee

Given that most of the new programmes on TV are hardly worth the airtime, and I and many other viewers now seem to wach exclusively repeats from the 60s and 70s, would it not be fair to charge the same TV licence fee as back then?

Write to the TV Licence Authority and suggest it. They could do with a good laugh

The 10:30 closedown during the early 70s was a Godsend. Perhaps if more people went to bed early instead of watching Big Brother half the night they wouldn't be fast asleep on the motorway driving into work the next day! To be honest the Test Card throughout the day plus the accompanying musak was far more stimulating than the waste of electricity that is daytime TV!

I think one should be quite happy to queue at the Post Office for 30 minutes to pay one's TV licence, knowing that it helps to put bread on the table for Jonathan Ross and his family.

Also, when you consider that some folks are quite happy to spend £50 or more on a DVD box set for one tv series, the licence seems reasonable value for a whole year of BBC tv and radio entertainment , with over 1,000 films to choose from......

Ouch, I have been out of the country for so long I had forgotten about the TV Licence fee....but after 5 Years of American TV and 2 Years of Oz TV I now look back with fond memories of BBC tv dramas that I helped pay for back in the day.....

Just curious what is the licence fee these days?

£135.50 colour or £45.50 black and white - whatever that is!
Pretty good value at less than three quid a week, but the the programme quality seems to be gradually declining year by year, with more and more repeats within seven days.

I would subscribe to a BBC 1970s channel [not a UK Gold!] - showing what remains of BBC 1 and BBC2 output for today's date 30-odd years ago...exactly the same day's progs (inc news, sport and everything) broadcast for the date - for instance I wonder what the Beeb was showing Jan 27 1973 ? I bet it was better than what we have offered to us tonight! No talent shows, no soaps!

No talent shows or soaps but as this BBC schedule for Monday 24 September 1973 there wasn't a great deal on...

Hardly anything worth watching - except those Sheepdog trials, in Welsh
