There are two series with Julia Bradbury, but wasn't there an earlier series with someone else? A male presenter of some northern regional type programmes?

I don't think they actually climbed many peaks like Julia does but they walked around the area quite a bit.

This same presenter knew AW well and I think had even interviewed him on camera

That would have been Eric Robson who in a very modest way has taken over from AW and did film a Lakeland walk with him.

That's the chap, I knew it was "some Northerner"
Apparently he's now chairman of The Wainwright Society (as well as presenter of Gardeners' Question Time on BBC Radio 4)

He has a series on Tyne Tees called Out Of Town, where he walks in the countryside with his mutt,Rack. Very entertaining.
He did a stint of the C2C between Applegarth Scar near Marske (near Richmond) and a place west of the A19.
He reminds us of where AW mentions of a horse rider falling off Applegarth Scar on his horse. The horse was killed and the rider broke his leg,but to save his leg,he cut the stomach of the horse open and placed the leg inside the warm blood .
Kiplin Hall, near Scorton, was the home of Lord Baltimore, who later founded Maryland.
Lastly,Robson/AW tells of the Battle of the Standards, which was a little known civil war. When Henry II died,he wanted his only legitmate daughter Matilda to take the throne, but Stephen Du Bois took the throne. Matilda went up to Scotland to see her uncle, and he sent 1000's of men into England to take on the forces of King Stephen. Thus on a field near the A167 which links Northalerton to Great Smeaton, the Battle of the Standards took place in 1138. Despite the overwhelming number of the Scots,it was the English military skill which won the day and it is believe that in that area is the mass grave of 10,000 Scots. So is called the part of the route,Scots Pit Lane.

Friday 29th August.
Wainwright's Walks - 19:30

Helvellyn

Series in which Julia Bradbury explores the work of the great British fell walker and author, Alfred Wainwright. She sets off to reach the summit of Helvellyn via the Lake District's most talked about ridge, Striding Edge. And, like Wainwright, Julia reaches the Edge just as the cloud and the rain descend.

Yes Rob, these days programmes which have been on before don't seem to have the letter R after them.

This is the start of the series two again, Helvellyn this week followed by Catbells next week. On JB'bs website it says a third series will be filmed, I think that will be AW's coast to coast walk which was completed by our very own MarkyB

I think Julia is great! She makes the walks look so easy, thought I would give Scafell a go. Got nearly to the top, got too steep, vertigo kicked in and couldn't move up or down! Pathetic!

The scenery is brilliant and I think she is down to earth and 'normal', not bland at all! By watching the walks, perhaps it is the only way that some people will every get to see the marvellous views.
