Then he was booted off that and Jeremy "Paxo" Paxman took over with his more abrasive, bullying style. With his catchphrases like "Oh, come on", "Surely, you must know that".

Was he actually booted off? There was a change of channel (originally it was Sundays lunchtimes on LWT wasn't it?) and a gap of 7 years. Bringing it back with Bamber wouldn't have done much for audience figures. Do we know he actually wanted to do the revived programme? Maybe he's happy in semi-retirement.

My alma mater didn't take part while I was at university, having been banned owing to this incident.

I read that Bamber was asked to go back but turned it down to concentrate on his online encyclopaedia. There was a programme about him and his projects on TV a couple of years ago. he seemed quite happy with his lot.

I wish I had claws.

David Gell hosted "Concentration" and according to one source ( but not another) he hosted Junior Criss Cross Quiz . I remember his voice on Radio Luxemburg- the station of the stars.
I had Jeremy down for Dotto, but I have just found that Robert Gladwell did that.
It's like I said, the shows and hosts are merging.
I now have a memory of Jeremy Hawk doing CCQ. but I would've sworn that David Gell fronted a CCQ, could have been the junior version, though.

I'm not sure if it was strictly a game show, but I did quite like Paul Merton's Thank God You're Here. Some of the celebrity(?) contestants were admittedly dire (the girl from Corrie being particularly out of her depth), but I found the show reminiscent of the sketches I used to enjoy in The Generation Game ("your next line's on the back of Lionel Blair's head").
