The Muscle market - Britmovie

Alan Bleasdale's Boys from the Black Stuff which ultimately influenced Auf Wiedersehen Pet, I guess could be construed as a series rather than a film.
He did however write a one-off play as part of the series named
" The Muscle Market", which starred Pete Postlethwaite and Alison Steadman.
This episode which was shown on TV originally in 1981 as a 'Play for Today'was never include on the DVD version of the above.
It was by far the best story and was in parts simply hilarious.
As far as I know it is unavailable.
Wondered if any of you kind gentlemen could help.

Yes, I remember seeing this at the time Scholes and really enjoyed it. I think it ended with the main character on the roof of a moving bus? You might be better off posting it in the 'Looking For A DVD' TV thread to see if you get a response there.

yes an excellent play my auntie had a small role in it as pete postlethwaites mam . She was a cleaner in the everyman so knew them all and helped to coach the out of town actors with thier scouse dialect . I got a copy of the play from a guy on here ill try and find his user name and post in case you want to contact him

He was on the moving bus to the accompanying music of the Beatles "Money", not I hasten to add the 1977 version by 'the Flying Lizards'.

Is there a scene on abuilding site with a digger?? is this the one?

Hi Stevie Boy (your handle makes me think of the other "Stevie" - Gerrard), there was indeed a scene with a digger or two as the lead is a plant hire contractor and there is an auction scene where he wants to offload some plant......

I thought it was "Yesterday", though "Money" was also used earlier. I could be wrong, of course.

I enjoyed Terence Rigby's performance in this, as he swapped film quotes and imagined himself to be a "heavy"!

It did indeed close with "Yesterday" by the Beatles- just one of a number of nice touches. Terence Rigby was excellent as the wannabe heavy and his stream of film quotes are hilarious.

Yes you're right of course.
I know "Money" was played at some stage of the play.
It is about 20 years since I last saw it.
