I enjoyed this on BBC 4 last night (repeated tonight) but was disappointed by the absence of Terence Alexander (Charlie Hungerford). I realise he is now over eighty, though, and maybe not well enough to appear. Or perhaps he just didn't want to. Anybody heard anything of him in recent years?

Has retired to my knowledge - was disappointed to about the absence of one of The League of Gentlemen. I think these docs are made in a rush - interviewing cast in quick succession at a BBC locale (backgrounds - or variations on them - seem to repeat themselves in these docs) to save money. TA may just not have been available.

Managed to catch this last evening on a repeat. The sheer joy of John Nettle's reminiscence about his old mucker surely compensated for Mr. Alexander's absence though. What a joy in fact, that all of the people involved were so hugely affectionate about the progs.

And what a bevy of feminine beauties too! Every single one of them was as gorgeous as ever...... in fact I rather felt Jim's ex-wife was actually even more attractive now, than she was then!....

Whenever then was.

How nice that all of them had made it through to look back with some fondness. No doubt there had been times when they wished they'd never got involved (I seem to recall Mr. Nettles being a bit tetchy about Jersey Jim at one time) but time had moved on and they could view it with the benefit of history.

At least we'll be spared any of the misery-raking about Bergerac of the sort we're having inflicted upon us, about the Steptoes, who both died too early to fully appreciate the greatness of their creations.

I remember an interview with John Nettles in a magazine several years ago. He said he regretted the series had gone on for so long because it meant he had lost out on other opportunities and was 'typecast' by it. He came across as quite bitter about it.

Perhaps his success in Midsomer Murders has mellowed his views a bit because he certainly seemed to look back very fondly on making Bergerac

A propos of nothing, may I say that my first memory of Terence Alexander is his role as Garry Halliday's 2IC in the kids' eponymous drama, and my fascination at the tabloids' universal reference to Jersey as, "Bergerac Holiday Island", whether referring to mass murder, international fraud or flower festivals.
