Also Goodwin was working from quite limited sources anyway. He certainly didn't have access to the full KW diaries. Has anyone except for Russell Davies who edited them been ableto use the manuscripts? There must be some fantastic stuff there.

He put his arm round me one night in Newcastle Central Hotel and he might have mentioned it. That night is missing in the published text. Either I didn't make an impression - although I was young and pretty back then - or he didn't make an entry that night. (Er... No smutty comments about that last line please! ) |

I'm with Hhhhancock on Ken Stott. I haven't watch Hancock and Joan, although I thought that "The Curse of Steptoe and Son" was pretty good, but for me, Ken Stott is Rebus. I remember seeing John Hannah, normally a fine actor, playing him and it was all wrong. He was too young, too skinny and far too good looking. Stott has that wonderful, potato-faced, lived in look that Ian Rankin describes so brilliantly in his books. It's just a tragedy that there will be no more Rebus books - or will there? "Shiv" had quite a big part in "Exit Music", so maybe, she will carry on with advice from the Man. Let's hope so.

I am new to hancock (and this board .. this is my first post) .. after hearing my dad and grandad bang on about his comedy genius (I wasn't born until 1970 so missed him the first time round) .. but I really enjoyed this and has made me want to learn more about him ... this site has been a great in helping me as it was the first one I visited when trying to find out more about Joan's relationship with Tony .. I have even managed to track down a copy of Joan's book on amazon for a bargain £40 :)
How things may have been different ... I would love to meet her.. |

I will do ... I am trying to get some of the radio shows first ..
I know the man was a brilliant comedian, but also a complex character ... It's a shame I have come to him so late in life so to speak. Thanks for your help :) Shaz |

I can't see what was wrong with Ken Stott? His portrayal (and those of the rest of the cast from this Curse of Comedy season) wasn't mean to be an impersonation. His performance and Maxine Peake's were outstanding.
Spike Milligan or Charles Haughtrey next please. |

Any Hancock fan out there who hasnt seen his second feature film,"The Punch and Judy Man.", do check it out, I dont think its half as bad as critics and fans have made out. There is something about that film that draws me back time after time.
I know it was made under unpleasant cirumstances with Tony's drinking causing problems on set but I think its a bit of a gem. The character of Wally Pinner was the anthesis of the Anthony Aloyisous Hancock character of tv and radio. Also interesting to see Johnn Le Me Mesurier in a different kind of role as opposed to his normal civil servant roles. Does anyone out there recall the series Tony Hancock made called Hancock for Atv in in 1963, supposed to have been a real mess by all accounts, Channel Four repeated at least one episode once on a Chrismtas Archive evening many years ago. |
