When I was a kid I used to confuse Tony Hancock with sad faced stooge Norman Chapel, he may have taken over from Hancock on the Egg marketing board commercials. Norman Chapple was always on tv comedies in the sixties, I know nothing about him.
Talking about sad faced stooges was there a sadder face on telly than Johnny Vivyan who worked with Hancock on his tv series . Antother regular fixture on comedy shows of ths sixties and seventies was Tommy Godfrey who played one of Jack Smethurst's drinking mates on Love Thy Neighbour. What was the name of that cockney actor who played the part of a bookie in Beryl's Lot, he alwwys played a cockney. |
