The tickets are sent free. You just apply for them. You also have to wonder about how much truth is in the actions of the people appearing in the shows? Are they there just to get on tv or are they there to disgrace someone they dislike or hate? Of course there are some heartbreaking stories that are true. There are also just viscous acts being taken to hurt people publicly. It was reported that the Jeremy Kyle team purposely antagonise the guests before they go on for a better response. Sounds right to me.

I used to regularly drive past the Anglia studios on the days when they recorded the Tricia and Vanessa programmes. The queues to get in were enormous.

That is very true. On the few occasions I have seen these programmes I have felt very strongly that some extremely vulnerable people are being exploited. I have even seen a couple of ex-patients of mine on the Tricia show. What's worse, I have seen some of my colleagues in the audience, and they weren't there as part of the 'professional back up'.

I think such people should be turned away and referred back to their GP or social worker, as should those who've suffered child abuse etc. If some people are prepared to physically self-harm I'm sure there's a few with guilt issues prepared to do so psychologically on a down-market tv show.

Absolutely. I think these shows do more harm to the individuals who go on them than the producers would ever dare to admit.

Rab C Nesbitt and family were onto this sort of thing in the 90's.
They were making a living from going on these shows and pretending to be an even more dysfunctional family, and were getting fees and green room hospitality plus greater notoriety.
I wonder if Kyle offers fees and hospitality, certainly he offers notoriety, which is the closest his customers will get to fame.

I quite fancy applying for some tickets for the Trisha show, with a view to disrobing midway through and running a mock while shouting 'get yer tits out Trisha' as the security fellas chase me around the set, like a pack of merciless rugby players.

Just the very thought of it makes my manhood swell.

You're quite right Carmel , Jeremy Kyle is possibly the biggest hypocrite on TV.
I know for a fact he has a mistress ,I'm just amazed that it has never come out .

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

I often work in a library in a deprived area of Leeds where I see many of the youths who are part of Kyle's core group of victims. Any display of weakness or difference is leaped upon by the rest of the group, giving them effectively no emotional outlet.

Programmes like this seem to me to be part of the problem, rather than the solution, and will keep getting away with exploiting the vulnerable until someone commits suicide over it.

Even then, if the victim isn't pretty and female, and preferably kills herself on air, the news media won't take an interest. The press certainly weren't interested in the rash of suicides in South Wales when it was boys. Until attractive goth girls started turning up dead the phenomemon was totally ignored.

For anyone who used to read the comic 2000AD, one of the Judge Dredd serials of 1977 did a surprisingly good take on an illegal futuristic game and chat show.
It's host, Baby Bob Nicely was personified as an insincere presenter with a large array of smiley white teeth.
The show was based on "Who wants to be a Millionaire" where contestants had to answer a series of questions correctly.
On the downside if the final question was wrongly answered then the forfeit would be that the whole of the contestants family would be transported back in a time machine to the early Jurassic period without any water or food.
Understandably Baby Bob made sure that the last question was so obscure that it would be unanswerable.
The contestants and audience in turn were so addicted to the show that the prize available far outweighed the risks involved.
Baby Bob, when eventually rumbled by Dredd, tried to escape into the time machine, only to realise that he'd accidentally taken the place of a contestant, who'd just answered the last question incorrectly.
He was never seen again.
What an appropriate way for the likes of Mr. Kyle et al to go.
