Default The case for Headcases

After watching this last night with great anticipation, I had mixed feelings about it's content.
The depiction of Gordon Brown as a skinflint of Dickensianesque proportions perhaps offered the best potential for what could be a very good politically charged form of savage satire, which it certailny needs to be.
The depiction of Mugabe as a West country farmer rather than the
election rigging, cruel megalamaniac that he really is, was nothing more than a "safe " sop to the viewer.
It will probably take a few weeks to establish it's identity(like Spitting Image)and I dare say it will have it's good weeks and bad alike.
The Posh and Becks routine was only prevented from being tired, by the introduction of Steven Spielberg to the Beckham residence, and it was quite original.
I just hope it will not end up being an over-indulgence in light hearted snipes at celebrities- we can all watch Alastair McGowan for that- at the expense of very cruel and more cutting material.

I expected much of this programme and I'm afraid it fell short of those expectations.

Maybe just a slightly shaky start, maybe that Spitting Image set a standard that can't be easily lived up to.

Private Eye do it better with their communique from Comrade Gordon and his Five Year Plan

What about the mention of bonemeal fertiliser - that his opponents had helped with?

I tend not to remember Spitting Image with rose tinted glasses. There was great enthusiasm for the series because the puppets were great and politicians of the time so so loathesome, but there were some terribly dud sketches among the gems, and it was allowed to go on for far too long by ITV.

I think they're on to a loser by comparing it to Spitting Image. It doesn't have much to do with it and I think they should just try letting it run on its own strengths.

There were a few that made me smile. But not every sketch in Spitting Image was a total success
