Default Had enough..... celeb come dine with me?????

I dont know if much more can be said against reality tv but feel as though I need to get this off my chest! I may end up eating my words as I havent seeen it, but will not see this new show which is on tonight `celebrity come dine with me, how many more celeb/ reality tv programmes can they squeeze out??????? It says this one is to find out which celeb is the best host!

One of the celebs they have reserected is Lindsay de Paul, I personally dont care what or how she cooks . I thought she was a singer??????

And I cant bare celebrity wife swap. OMG how awful is that?

To be honest I dunno if it is the kind of shows they spew out these days or its the people who are on them,/run them that gets to me. Probably a bit of both. I mean if we were in the 70`s and Frankie Howard was in the jungle with his humour, or Fennela Fielding was on some cookery programme with her amazing personality, would I mind as much? I dunno.

Sorry to try and cover reality tv again but do we really need more of this crud?

Some would say well, if you feel so strongly write your own tv programmes then, well the answer to that is that amongst other people on this site I do try but find that my work not accepted, probably due to this pointless rubbish we call modern tv.

Do you think that we will ever get a time back where we have the majority of our tv as good quality again without cheap tv shows (of course, if you agree that is what they are)?

Is it time for a change?

Thanks for letting me sound off .

xx

The amount of programmes has expanded to fill the space made available by the explosion of new channels. The talent pool will necessarily be diluted, making worthwhile programmes harder to find. Discerning viewing is now more of a challenge (but oh the smug feeling when you discover a gem )

The last time I felt smug about finding a gem that hardly anyone else watched was a couple of years ago, when BBC4 showed the French serial Spiral.

Prior to that it was the C4 drama for kids Last Rights.

Lindsay De Paul's skill on the chopping board can't be any worse than her talent as a singer/songwriter surely?
A lot of celebrity has beens are usually wheeled out on the odd cooking programme.
Even Cheggers (the lead singer with that one hit wonder seventies band Kenny, and erstwhile stooge to Noel Edmonds) made an appearance on one of them.
I think we're all aware of the vagaries of reality TV, but unfortunately it's here to stay.

I actually love Come dine with me though I have no interest in a celeb version. It's perfect Sunday afternoon entertainment (especially if you record it and fast-forward through all the repeated bits). Complete snobs hold dinner parties for total strangers, get drunk, flirt with each other, have rows and - here's the best bit - the guests can poke around in their host's wardrobe. What's not to like?

I caught this and quite enjoyed it. But what makes it for me is that they are ordinary (or sometimes extraordinary) folk. Some of them are real off-the-wall characters and don't have to worry about a screen persona or rebooting their careers. All they want is to be on telly for a bit and win a grand!

Getting 'celebs' involved just knocks the edge off it. Production companies always have to meddle don't they?

I use inverted commas because I dislike the word intensely.

I agree. It is great entertainment (though I must admit,I could not go in for it myself, unless I can find out the French name for home made ham shank soup, shepherd's pie with baked beans and chocolate pudding and custard, washed down with wine and cans of Carling). Dave Lamb's commentary is a treat.

If you record all the episodes on More 4 on Sunday afternoons, by fastwarding through the ads and the bits where they reintroduce people, you can watch a whole week's episodes in about 70 minutes. It really is very funny, especially the commentary.
