Default Escape to the country

Ok, I watch this programme with serious envy, obviously!

So I wonder why they always get couples (Young couples, at that which makes supressed envy ten times worse ) who look for magnificent homes in the country but not people with what could be seen as an average amount of spending money or just that bit more than average to make it realistic or interesting enough to move to the country?

I mean, where do they find these people who at the age of 25 can afford a hundred acre Jacobean property complete with stable block, garage for two and a workshop at the rear!?

As I say, pure jealousy. What are your thoughts on these programmes?

P.s I once saw one of these where a young woman burst into tears at the despair that she couldnt decided between two £800,000 houses. Her husband said to the presenter `Its hard for her`!

xx

Pure jealousy on my part as well. I would love to have a house in the countryside,or somewhere closer to the country. In my local rag,the Evening Gazette there is a beautiful house for sale in Great Broughton,on the edge of the Cleveland Hills. Asking price, just short of £900,000.
A house I would dearly love to have is High Blakey House, opposite the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge (between Castleton and Hutton-Le-Hole),with commanding views over Rosedale. It is now owned by the owners of the pub as an extension to their B&B facilities.

If you watch right to the end of these programmes, there's usually a voiceover that says "After much thought, Wayne and Sharon decided to keep looking for their dream home" - or something like that.

In other words, they were never serious about buying any of the properties - they just thought it would be fun to be on telly.

Yep. Good point. There was one couple a few years whose shopping list was a bit much:close to the sea, room for a heliport (yes,a heliport) etc,and the poor girl presenter (forgotten her name - she took over Through The Keyhole) must have pulled her hair out.

The finest example of that happening was when Channel 4 thought it would be a fab idea to produce a 'celeb' special. The couple in question were 'England & Portsmouth pocket rocket' Jemain Defoe (a footballer) and his silly bitch girlfriend. They had £2 million to spend on a holiday home (can't be bad) and weren't afraid to spend all of it. So the whole 30 minute production was of his silly bimbo girlfriend, pissing around parts of sunny Europe looking at 8-12 bedroom mansions and complaining that the swimming pools weren't of adequate proportions. Anyway, after much ado about nothing, she finally spotted something she liked which was a mill over budget so she rings Jermain and the camera then cuts to some London gaffe with him sprawled out on a bed muttering phrases like "whatever babe, if you like it then send me some pics and I'll check it out". Anyway, here comes the punch line.. that same familiar voice over concluded by stating that shortly after the program was made, not only did the house plans fall through, but Jermain and co parted company too.

I have to say, that went some way to restoring the loss I'd felt for the 30 minutes that had passed.
