Default Price Drop and Bid TV Freeview Channels

I know everyone takes the mick out of people who tune into shopping channels but I've bought two items recently on Price Drop TV which have been absolute bargains. A Carlton DVD boxed set of Auf Wiedersehen Pet series 1 and 2 for under £20 including p&p, plus a 58 piece traditional Viners cutlery set for under £30 including p&p.

The other night they had a boxed set of Carry-On films on DVD for £12.99 including Carry On Loving, Carry On Don't Lose Your Head, Carry On Dick, Carry On Girls, Carry On Abroad. Not all of the Carry-On films otherwise I would have bought it. I prefer the earlier Carry-Ons because they've not been shown on TV as often as the colour ones.

So if the TV schedule is struggling to entertain you then you may tune-in and pick up something worthwhile. They had a boxed set of Inspector Frost the other week for about £18.

You have to be careful with them sometimes. I once watched one of those channels and they were selling boxed sets of Laurel and Hardy films and were promoting them as their finest films without naming which ones were included. I caught a brief glimse close up and it was their early silents, many before they were a team, and their last disasterous french film. None of the 30s classics were included. I wonder how many people were bitterly disapointed.

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

You also have to be wary because some of them have recently been fined quite heavily for fiddling the results. Especially the auction-style ones like Auction-World. They were getting the production staff to bid and so boost the price. They closed down but then some very similar channels started up to replace them which were backed and run by some very similar people - with no connection to the previous scammers of course

Most of those "impossible to win" quiz shows have also been closed down, but some are still running

Well the channel I use there is none of that, the price drops gradually and everyone pays the lowest price achieved. So if a boxed set of DVDs starts off at £70 and I decide to buy it when it has dropped to £45, and the price continues to drop to say £10, I only pay £10 like everyone else who's bought.

The quality of the DVDs and the cutlery I bought were superb, and I checked out the retail prices on the Net before I decided to buy. Delivery was only a couple of days for the DVDs and six days for the cutlery.

The delivery is usually £7.99 but you need to take that into account plus the £1.50 call charge, but mine still came out to well below what I would have paid in the shops. So you just add £9.49 on to whatever the lowest price is reached and decide for yourself if it's worth the money.

Some presenters are quite entertaining because most of them are aspiring or failed TV presenters, Butlins Red Coats or wannabe quiz show comperes and its quite extraordinary the amount of gibberish that comes out as they demonstrate various products, especially scientific claims and benefits for owning a particular item. Having said that some of them are pretty good and would put a few of our mediocre mainstream presenters to shame!

Default Cinema Poster Mugs

They had a set of 8 coffee mugs on last night each featuring the original cinema poster artwork from 8 Carry On films. They were down to around £8.99 for the set before I switched over and I thought what a good idea it was.

I can't think of a nicer present than someone's favourite film poster on a mug, but at that price it was a steal (add £10 to the price for the 'phone call and P&P though).

Mind you I've seen those classic Penguin book cover mugs in Borders for around £10 each, which seems a bit of a rip-off.
