Default BBC online programme catalogue discontinued

During its brief tenure online, I found the BBC programme catalogue extremely interesting - listing all the broadcast dates and details of its extant archive. However, it seems this was only a short term trial...as the online catalogue is no more.

There was also a suggestion some time ago that the actual archive programme content would be made available online - and what a treasure trove this would be. Alas, this seems a long way off as well.

Must agree. The BBC Programme Catalogue proved invaluable to me while compiling Jenny's appearances and I was incredibly lucky that it stayed online until I'd got hold of everything I needed.

The Archive doesn't seem to be making much progress

All the best

Meant to give the link to the BBC's own explanation:

Been archived........

I too grabbed some stuff about Patrick McGoohan that seemed entirely undocumented anywhere else. I'm so glad I printed out the pages while they were there.

This will happen around the same time as the UK launches its first inter-stellar school exchange with the planet Zog

I wondered about this as well. It does, however, raise the old issues about public ownership and just who paid for all these programmes in the first place...If we are all stakeholders in the great BBC archive, at least we should have the right to know what's there!
