Default Recommend some 70's, 80's & 90's TV gems..

Being a young shaver, I and others have missed many commercially unreleased television programmes that are destined never to see the light of day again. I suppose this is the best place to pose the question; what, in your opinion, are the best TV gems from the 70's, 80's & 90's? the more obscure the better.

Although I'm generally a freak for 60s and 70s series, two of my absolute favourites started in 1990, Chancer and Jeeves and Wooster.

Not exactly obscure, I'll admit, as both are easily available on DVD, but I think Chancer is quite undervalued.

One of my personal faves from the 1970s is A Family at War. It's been released on dvd but it never seems to get mentioned anywhere and has nothing like the cult following of Upstairs Downstairs or other WW2 stuff like Enemy at the Door. It must be one of the most ambitious British dramas ever with an absolutely huge cast and an incredibly complicated story structure. According to the production notes on the dvd, it was regularly getting audiences of over 20 million though it never turns up in lists of most-watched programmes.

I have many great classics in my collection and am awaiting the release of Family At War here, won't hold my breath.

Love watching Catweazle, am now on series 2, but in fear of moving on to watch the rest, currently on 3rd episode of series two with Gary Warren, as it will destroy those golden memories from those days of watching as a family on Saturday evenings. I will wait for my boys to get bigger so they can enjoy it with me. Don't mind starting again as I can watch their faces and see how they enjoy it.

Will send you a PM Dave.

Similar title, Muck and Brass, an excellent (as I remember) serial from the 1980s with Mel Smith as a dodgy businessman.

I remember "Chessgame"1983. Spy thriller with Terence Stamp in a rare

TV appearance. Also "Manhunt"1970 with Alfred Lynch & the lovely

Cyd Hayman!
