Documentary examining the various portrayals of Sherlock Holmes over the years. The great detective represents the first pop culture icon, and the programme considers what the various reinterpretations reveal about the generations that created them, and how they compare to Arthur Conan Doyle's original vision. Featuring contributions from crime writer Minette Walters, film critic and author Kim Newman and Edward Hardwicke, who played Dr Watson alongside Jeremy Brett's Holmes.
