Saw a review of a Harry Worth biography in a recent edition of the Stage. The book is only eighty pages long. Seems he was a gentle sole in real life who was well aware of his limitations.
The reviewer said that transscripts from his BBc shows are in the book and they dont seem funny now. But he did go on to say that Harry was very engaging a s a peformer and declared that the shop window shenanigans is still funny. |

Oh Happy Band had one or two excellent moments. But I was in the audience for the very first radio recording that Harry Worth performed. All I can remember of it was his trade-mark chuckle! Gently unique, he was never destined for greatness; yet he gave a lot of pleasure nevertheless, to the less demanding, less cynical amongst us, I feel sure.
