Default Steel River Blues

I would like to point out to people beyond the north east region who are watching this new series, that not everyone in Middlesbrough speaks with a geordie accent. Geordie people live in Tyneside. Makkems live in Wearside and all surrounding pit villages. Middlesbrough (spelt thus, not with an O between the B and the R as some hitchhiker in the series spelt it) was once part of Yorkshire, became part of Cleveland and is now in a world of its own.
According to our local rag the Evening Gazette, not many people are impressed with this programme and a local fireman is not happy about it with its misrepresentation of the service. Personally,I got fed up with London's Burning and this "Middlesbrough on Tyne, but shot in Leeds" has just taken the baton.

Take away the "spectaculars" in the programme and you are left with nothing really.

Looking back Nicholas Nickleby, Confessions of Felix Krull, Mapp and Lucia, Barchester Chronicles, Beiderbeck Tapes, Rising Damp etc.

Be honest with me . . . as I'm getting old is it me who is starting to smell or is it television.

The world wags on.

Indeed it is a fictitious drama,Russ, but in these days of programme trying to be authentic, surely they could at least do some homework on the area? You are from Salford,I am sure a lot of people from the Manchester area would not like it if a programme which is set there was peopled with characters with scouse accents or broad Yorkshire.
We do have some geordies who live here, but the programme gives the impression we are ALL geordies.

Oh and by the way we haven't yet closed the borders we do actually allow scousers and yorkshire folk, and even geordies to live and work within our boundaries.

Giving it an American sounding title was enough for me to bypass it!

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"
