Default Memories Of Look In Magazine

No self-respecting telly child of the seventies could be without the immortal,"Look In Magazine." the Junior Tv Times.

What I loved about it most of all was the tv schedules for all ITV regions, in those days there were considerable regional varations.

My HTV region was bereft of the following programmes,"Anita In Jumbleland." "Nanny and the Professor." "The Doris Day Show." repeats of "Supercar." and "Fireball Xl5."

Us non welsh speakers in the Htv region got a pretty rough deal, if you failed to read the small print in the paper or the TV Times we ended up watching a magazine programme called."Miri Mawr.". and a puzzling quiz called.,"Station Cantamil."

The other regions seemed positiely exotic, funny how times have changed getting exited by a few regional varitions when I can have access to almost any radio channel in the world on 'tinernet.

I didnt know that. That's much better than those awful giveaways in the Dandy and Beano, awful cheap things that made a noise. My favourite comic free gifts were the photo albums and pics given away with Tv Comic in the sixties. I remember distinctly that one of the picture was of Milicent Martin.

Another of the all time great TV comics gifts was a set of Ken Dodd's teeth.

What would they give away today a copy of Amy Winehouse's court summons or a dice game on the back of the annual with a game called,"Help Amy get out of Jail."

I kept reading it for Martin Asbury's fantastic Six Million Dollar Man comic strip, which was better then the series itself. He then went on to draw the Garth comic strip for the Daily Mirror, and storyboards for the James Bond films.

I distinctly recall first getting those very early editions of LOOK-IN, with that 'Build your own Magpie studio'. I wonder if any of those survived?

As has been said, the back pages - with all the regional variations - were so tempting (and inevitably frustrating!) Even more so was the full size TV TIMES with details of the films being shown in other regions.

Ahh for the days when 'Granada-land' was some seemingly distant and exotic clime...

That's it ... I couldn't remember which programme it was. Mine certainly hasn't survived.

I remember asking my Mother to place a regular order for the Tv Times in 1969. so I could have a look in advance at the listing for Batman to see what vilain would be doing battle with the Caped crusader. A couple of times there was an industrial dispute with the magazine and instead of the regular edition there would be the dreaded emergency edition with a black and white cover and reduced content. One such edition had Tommy Cooper on the cover.

Who remembers the festive edtions of the seventies where people like Noele Gordon would adorn the cover with Santa suit and beard,
