Yes, that's certainly true. And Richard Bellamy must have been pushing 60 when the show began - which was around the time of the death of Queen Victoria. He must have been close to 90 when the Great Depression began.

But somehow it was never an issue with that show. I don't know why it worked, but it always did.

Yes, when UD eventually finished it's run some spin-offs were mooted, one where Kate and Angus were actually running their Guest house (along with Ruby!) but the premature Death of Angela Baddeley a few months after the series demise put paid to that, the only spin-opff that came to light was 'Thomas & Sarah'......

I recall at the time the Producers didn't deem it 'necessary' to age the Characters!

I'm sure I remember reading an interview with Simon Williams in which he said that he was putting grey into his hair, while David Langton was dying his brown! There's an episode in the final series (c1928) where Hudson is ill and Edward has to take over as butler temporarily and everyone keeps worrying about whether the 'boy' can manage it though his character by this time was in his late 30s. And meanwhile Georgina, (18 when she arrived in 1913) is panicking about whether she can host a dinner party - she's over 30 and an ex-WW1 nurse but behaving like a teenager.

The years is listed on every one of the 1920's episodes, and there are specific historical references throughout the series.
