Default Favourite TV presenters.

Hi all! So, who's your favourite TV presenter, at the moment mine has to be Michael Palin. As well as his talent as an actor, writer and all round funny bloke, I think his efforts in his travel series' are absolutely brilliant. He has a natural ability to make you feel you're actually there with him when he goes on those totally absorbing walkabouts and when he meets all the colourful people on said travels, he makes them feel very important and interesting(although some of them truly are!) with his tongue more often than not, firmly in his cheek! That to me is quite an ability, and also the more research done on him, I haven't found any write-ups that say anything bad about him....he truly seems an all-round decent bloke, specially after the many Hollywood offers refused because he wanted to do his own thing after the success of "A Fish Called Wanda" Yep! definately my presenter of the moment. :) Regards, Decks.

Dan Cruickshank, from Britain's Best Buildings amongst other programs, genuinely enthusiastic, enjoyable to watch.

Professor Richard Holmes from War Walks, he knows his stuff. wink

Johnathon Ross is good in the way he really takes the p*ss out of the guests like no other presenters dare. neener

Fred Dibnah, not your professional slick tv presenter but his enthusiasm for the industrial revolution carried him along and his easy going stlye harked back to a bygone age of tv.

Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends are also a good peek into the detached lives of celebs and various other eccentrics/fruitcakes.

Yes,I rate Jonothan Ross very highly scarf (his brother,Paul, however, very lowly moon ) and as a fan of Morecambe and Wise,I think Ant & Dec will be in a few years the new Eric and Ernie. scarf
Dan Cruikshank:he did a mind boggling programme about Durham Cathedral, once voted the most beautiful building in the world bow
Matthew Kelly was superb on Stars In Their Eyes and I think Cat Deeley will be a good successor.

For me the most professional has to be Alan Whicker who would make the telephone directory absorbing and fun. His recent work on his wartime service was terrific and I suspect, for him, very moving to see his old haunts in Italy again and remember pals who would never experience those feelings.

Dan Cruickshank definitely, Simon Sharma and old Doc Starky. Peter Snow and son, all good presenters.

Can't stand the Ross', either of 'em; and I believe there's ANOTHER Ross at home as well !!!!

Good morning boys.

Love Jeremy Paxman for his complete lack of respect for politicians.
Like the daytime pairings of Phil Schofield and Fern Britton and Des O'Connor and Mel Sykes - true pros and not full of themselves.
Also like Gary Lineker and Bruce Forsyth.
But for me the best of all is Adrian Chiles - truely seems to love what he does - like a little boy in a sweet factory!

No one here rate Barry Norman and Parkie? At least they nod towards journalistic values, unlike show-boaters Jonathan Woss and others...anyone who can remember Norman's Hollywood Greats - or read the books for that matter - will find out that one of his rules was he would only profile film star who had died. Then all the interesting, true, stories would appear from those who feared not to tell them. His latest autobiography is also a good read too - explaining a lot about how today's pampered stars get away with publicising their latest and 'best' flick without any interviewers allowed to ask more in-depth questions. ...and as for Parkinson, though admittedly his most recent BBC/ITV series have been more plug- machines, his 1970s saturday shows are a national treasure. Many, many star names (Orsen Welles for example) answering questions which didn't hail from the 'what's your latest film like then?' or 'I hear your favourite colour's wed' variety ...those great interviews repeated since his return to the Beeb in the 1990s only touched the surface of the treasure trove. I bet you all, if any 'great' died tomorrow the tv news would show a clip of him/her from a Parky in the 70s, that's how authoritive his shows have become ...How sad, and how clearly did we see our own shallow age, when Meg Ryan appeared last year on the BBC Parkinson and tried to say virtually nothing about herself despite Parkie's successive efforts to turn her film plug into a proper interview. She's so used to listening to vacuous interviewers ...rant over, but it needed to be said!

From Sky Sports and thankfully without Kirsty Gallacher's tabloid baggage: (nearly makes a Liverpool defeat bearable)
