Wink Houseparty A Southern Tv Classic

Another classic and long running show from Southern. Dont know how long it ran for off hand but I remember it first in about 1967, the equsitley named Bunty James of How fame was also on. For a while HTV Wales and West stopped carrying it then it came back with a vengeance in our neck of the woods in the seventies.

There must have been a lot of males watching this as well as Women because a lot of my contempories watched it. Not sure why it apealed to us men.

During that time Sylvia Marshall was on board Ann Ladbury and an overbearing cookery expert called Mary Morris who was sometimes joined by her daughter who was a dentist.

Some people used to call in that I had never seen beforre, they were obviously knwon to the regulars,"How's your husbands hernia getting on.

Classic show though.

LOL!.......I recall watching this programme mid-70's when I used to bunk-off School (I had my reasons!), Ann Ladbury also had her own Sowing programme around the same time.

It was revived mid-90's after a succesful reunion of many of the Woman involved on a programme looking back at Southern TV hosted by Fred Dineage, Ann Ladbury once again appeared, oher than Sister Immaculata I had the impression the Women were mainly Business women and not just ordinary Housewives

I think that all the Housparty ladies had some connection with the media or showbiz, Sylvia Marshall was a former dancer, Bunty James who appeared in the earily days was one of the How presenters.

I remember watching this whenever I stayed with my grandparents in the mid 70s - I'd love to see it again!

I used to love watching it as a young teen, and some of the women on there were very fanciable. I can't remember her name but one was a bit hippyesque with long straight dark hair and you'd love to have spent a weekend in a tent with her at Stonehenge or Reading.

Brilliant theme tune! It was the sound of having a cosy day off school lying on the sofa and drinking Lucozade with the crinkly orange plastic wrap round the top of the bottle.

Bliss.

What were they actually on about though?

I bet today's youngsters don't happily sit and watch "Loose Women"! Too much choice breeds contempt...

All men leak.

I always associate Lucozade with being off school with a cold or some other ailment I would watch all the Schools programmes, it was the only time I could see them, we rarely watched them in school.

The great thing about being ill with flue was when it ran into a second week and My Mother decided that I wasnt well engough to go back.

Iremember being off with a bad cold during the 1970 World Cup when Malcolm Alison was one of the ITV panal of experts.

No,I know the one you mean it was called,"Women Only", which was made by Htv West. It was the first time I saw Jan Leeming prior to her glory days as a newsreader.

By coincidence her ex husband is Rado Two newsreader Patrrick Lunt.

It was shown on YTV, too, as my Mum used to like it.

Some former models, too, I vaguely recall Mum saying.

One of YTV's greatest daytime shows was Farmhouse Kitchen with Dorothy Sleightholme and not forgetting that Emmerdale Farm started out as an afternoon show.

Other YTV shows I recall from the seventies were "Queenies Castle" with Diana Dors and Sez Les with Les Dawson, "Stars On Sunday" and Hughie Greens; quiz programme "The Skys the Limit."

Actually I've just pitched a proposal to ITV for a male version of "Loose Women". It would have a panel of chaps sitting around waffling pointlessly about cars, football and supermodels. The opposite sex would be referred to in the most condescending or derogatory terms at all times.
As with "Loose Women" it would be transmitted at a time to catch a large target audience. Around 23.00 should be about right to attract blokes coming home from the pub. I've suggested a title of "Tight Men" and await a positive response from Michael Grade any day now.
